Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,July 9, 1998 <br /> letters indicated that they were not applying due to health reasons, and being <br /> active in other organizations and were hesitant to take on other <br /> commitments. Chairperson Walsh stated that if the last vacancy were not <br /> filled, he would like to discuss and then develop a target list. <br /> ITEM 4 — 98-99 WORK PLAN AND UPCOMING JOINT STUDY SESSION <br /> WITH THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> The Commissioner discussed items for the FY98-99 Work Plan and items for <br /> the upcoming study session. The following were the individual requests of <br /> the Commissioners': <br /> Leo Walsh <br /> -Luncheon Program <br /> -Health care <br /> -Meeting with administrators at Kaiser Hospital and Catholic Healthcare West <br /> -primary recipients of services <br /> -actively participate <br /> -both hospitals are supportive <br /> -continue to serve as Catholic Health Care West Community (CHCW) <br /> Advisory Committee member <br /> -continue contact with all hospitals on senior issues <br /> Chairperson Walsh noted that at the last Advisory Committee meeting, <br /> CHCW talked about a recommendation to add a position to each hospital to <br /> better coordinate senior services (At Home Care) If approved, Senior Center <br /> should become involved. <br /> -continue to monitor legislature on Social Security and Medicare and other <br /> related items that may or may not involve seniors. <br /> Betty Moran <br /> -Public Safety - focus on crimes affecting seniors such as elder abuse. She <br /> commented on reports of seniors preyed upon by teenagers at Luckys. <br /> -wants to continue to promote "Help at Home" booklet form County <br /> Commission on Aging. <br /> Geary Lloyd <br /> -keep pushing awareness of TIES, HICAP, etc. <br /> -types of calls that go into TIES <br /> -Health care; doctors pulling out of HMO's in County and may be forming <br /> their own group; HMOs will eliminate all senior care <br /> Housing <br /> -Code Enforcement; aesthetics; maintaining what we have <br /> -low rent mobile homes for senior; priority for RWC seniors <br /> -rental control <br /> -high cost of housing <br /> Intergenerational Programs <br /> -encourage programs via Redwood City 2000 <br /> -encourage programming at John Gill School <br /> Other <br /> -monitor and recommend on rate increases for garbage, water, etc. <br />
