Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, October 8, 1998 <br /> ITEM 3 — COMMENTS AND/OR FOLLOW UP ON JOINT STUDY SESSION <br /> WITH THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> The Commissioners felt the study session was well received by the City <br /> Council and that Dr. Cecil Reeves did a good job as facilitator. <br /> Superintendent Centeno noted the Council was enthusiastic about the <br /> Commission's work plan. <br /> ITEM 4 — DISCUSSION, REVISION, ADOPTION OF 98-99 WORK PLAN <br /> M/s Walsh/Moran: To adopt the proposal 98-99 Work Plan. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 5 — CREATION OF WORK PLAN COMMITTEE AND MEMBER <br /> ASSIGNMENTS <br /> Chairperson Walsh suggested that all Commissioners review the 98-99 Work <br /> Plan and get back to Superintendent Centeno by October 15 with 2 or 3 <br /> work plan items they would be interested in working on. <br /> ITEM 6 — CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT <br /> -Update on Organization of Meeting for Senior Input to the San Mateo <br /> County Court System <br /> Chairperson Walsh stated that he wrote to Judge Marta Diaz about having <br /> more senior involvement on this topic and Judge Diaz agreed with his <br /> suggestion. A public meeting on San Mateo courts and their communities <br /> will be held on Thursday, November 5 from 9:30-11 :00am at the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center for further discussion and input. <br /> -Update on Gas Station Pump Assistance Program <br /> A memo was distributed from Commissioner Borgens giving an update on the <br /> program and a questionnaire she developed to hand out to gas stations. <br /> Chairperson Walsh stated he would visit the gas stations on Whipple Avenue <br /> and Edgewood & El Camino Real. Commissioner Nobles said she will visit <br /> the stations at Roosevelt Plaza and Jefferson & Alameda. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Commissioner Harrison noted the cost of the next luncheon at Sneakers will <br /> be $10.75 per person including tax and tip. <br /> -Commissioner Nobles asked for assistance on becoming more <br /> knowledgeable about elder abuse and Commissioner Walsh suggested she <br /> meet with the Ann Weiss of TIES who visits the Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center once a month and speaks to seniors on this topic. <br /> -Superintendent Centeno announced a dinner to benefit the Veterans Center <br /> Senior computer education program and theater improvements will be held at <br /> the Senior Center this evening at 6:30pm and invited all to attend. Manager <br /> Linda Griffith will be cooking the meal. <br /> -Superintendent Centeno announced the "Spooktakular" event for children to <br /> be held at Red Morton Center on Saturday, October 31 from 11 am-3pm; <br />
