Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, August 12, 1999 <br /> Taylor with a copy to County Manager John Maltbie. Commissioner L.Walsh <br /> volunteered to assist Commissioner Borgens on this topic. <br /> • Follow up on ICI Cable costs, Borgens <br /> Commissioner Borgens reported she contacted TCI regarding cable costs and <br /> was advised that TCI no longer offers low income or senior citizen rates. <br /> She was sent packets of information from TCI and was advised to watch for <br /> future added benefits due to the recent merger with AT&T. <br /> -Health Care <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh reported that she spoke to Supervisor Mary Griffin <br /> regarding this issue who asked if the Senior Affairs Commission would make <br /> a presentation to the County Board of Supervisors on this issue. <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh suggested Commissioner L.Walsh make the <br /> presentation with the assistance of she and Commissioner Borgens. <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh noted that he took the resolution from our City <br /> Council to the annual meeting of the Senior California Legislature and it <br /> appears this item will be discussed by their Legislative Council. <br /> -Outreach, Public Awareness <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh spoke about contacting a representative from <br /> CalTrans regarding the timing of lights on El Camino Real and Woodside <br /> Road. This person admitted that the signals are set at the lowest levels <br /> possible due to the heavy congestion of traffic on those roads. He told <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh that he would have someone on his staff time those <br /> intersection lights and then get back to her. Commissioner M.Walsh agreed <br /> to speak to Traffic Engineer Rich Haygood regarding the timing of the lights <br /> on Veterans Boulevard and will report back at our next meeting. <br /> Commissioner Borgens noted that the SamTrans Saturday service on <br /> Woodside Road is being discontinued which will impact seniors in the area. <br /> A. J. Kabzinski spoke regarding problems with the 51B bus on Veterans <br /> Boulevard. Commissioner M.Walsh agreed to contract SamTrans on these <br /> matters. <br /> Commissioner Carpe spoke regarding her position as a consumer advocate <br /> and education co-chair for Rediwheels and felt the program has improved <br /> over the past several years. She suggested people going before the <br /> SamTrans board and voicing their concerns about the Rediwheels program. <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Commissioner Harrison announced that 42 people attended our luncheon <br /> held on June 24 at the Fortune Restaurant. The Commissioners appreciated <br /> the excellent presentation made by Mayor Diane Howard and former Mayor <br /> Georgi LaBerge on the Sister City Program and their recent visit to Zhuhai, <br /> China. Chairperson Moran noted that artists from China will be coming very <br /> soon to the Redwood City Art Center. <br /> The next luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 21 at the Courthouse <br /> Coffee Shop; more details will be forthcoming. <br /> The Commissioners invited the audience members from Woodside Terrace <br /> and Casa de Redwood to our next luncheon.
