Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, October 14, 1999 <br /> ITEM 4 — WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon, Court House Coffee Shop, October 21, <br /> 1999 <br /> Commissioner Harrison reported on attendance counts for the event to be <br /> held on October 21 . Linda Griffith will be asked to attend for Superintendent <br /> Centeno who will be in a training class that day. Commissioner Leo Walsh <br /> would like to discuss organizational structure again. He thinks that the City <br /> administrator should be involved or more actively participate if this is their <br /> goal. This support would be evidenced by attendance at meetings by City <br /> Council or City administration. <br /> -Housing, Transportation, Employment <br /> The Commissioners agreed to write a letter to City Council regarding the <br /> change in SamTrans bus stops at Casa de Redwood and the change in <br /> weekend service on Woodside Road. <br /> -Outreach, Public Awareness <br /> Commissioner Marie Walsh spoke regarding her contact with Traffic Engineer <br /> Rich Haygood regarding the intersection of Maple Street and Veterans <br /> Boulevard. He will lengthen the crossing time. He wants us to help educate <br /> seniors that when the lights flash, they should keep walking. Commissioner <br /> Walsh also spoke to Mr. Giu, Manager of CalTrans. He is thinking he will <br /> only be able to add a few seconds to the Hess Road at Woodside Road and <br /> the El Camino and Broadway intersections. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -There will be a fundraising dinner and concert tonight at the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center. <br /> -Commissioner Borgens requested that the City Clerk be notified regarding <br /> the Council Agenda, Board and Commission Report section that it state that <br /> no action be required versus no minutes are provided. <br /> -Commissioner Borgens requested that the Commission receive copies of the <br /> Senior Centennial Newsletter from the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. <br /> -Chairperson Moran reported on plans for the Tis the Season Holiday Parade <br /> to be held on Saturday, December 4 in downtown Redwood City. <br /> -Redwood City 2000 will "take over City Hall" on Friday and Saturday, <br /> October 15 and 16. <br /> -The Mayor will be having a quarterly meeting with all Board and Commission <br /> Chairpersons. <br /> -Commissioner Leo Walsh commented that the health care resolution from <br /> the City Council will be among 100 proposals to be considered by the Senior <br /> Legislature next week and that he will, at the invitation of the Chamber of <br /> Commerce principal of the day at John Gill School. <br /> -The Grand Opening of Stafford Park held on Saturday, October 9 was a <br /> huge success. <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at <br /> 2:30pm. By order of Chairperson Moran regularly scheduled November <br /> meeting will be cancelled in honor of Veterans Day. The next meeting of the <br /> Senior Affairs Commission will be convened at 1 :00pm on December 9, <br /> 1999 at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, <br /> Redwood City, California. <br />
