Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,July 13,2000 <br /> ITEM 2 —SENIOR HEALTH CARE ISSUES COUNCIL REPORT AND COUNCIL <br /> MEETING DATE <br /> Superintendent Centeno announced the senior health care issues report to <br /> City Council will be presented at their Monday, August 14 meeting. All <br /> Commissioners were encouraged to attend this Council meeting and to <br /> please call Superintendent Centeno if they were unable to attend. A copy of <br /> the Council report will be sent to the Commission this week. Superintendent <br /> Centeno reported Commissioner Leo Walsh spoke with Mayor Ruskin about <br /> the report and the Mayor was receptive. <br /> Commissioner Marie Walsh said she was notified by the County of San <br /> Mateo Employee Services Department that Blue Shield has cancelled its <br /> senior plan effective October 1 , 2000 and Aetna has cancelled their HMO <br /> senior plan effective December 31 , 2000. A copy of the memo she received <br /> from County of San Mateo was given to each of the Commissioners. She <br /> announced that Paul Hackleman, Benefits Manager for County of San Mateo <br /> Employee Services, will be making a presentation at the SCORPA meeting on <br /> July 26 to discuss this matter. <br /> ITEM 3 — WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Housing, Transportation, Employment <br /> No report. <br /> -Outreach, Public Awareness <br /> No report. <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Commissioner Leo Walsh has asked Steve Penna to invite Ted Fang to be a <br /> guest speaker at our next luncheon to be held in September. Mr. Fang was <br /> asked to select a date and advise Commissioner L.Walsh. <br /> -Strategic Planning Committee Update <br /> Superintendent Centeno announced that Commissioner Borgens has been <br /> attending the committee meetings regularly and the next meeting will be <br /> Wednesday, July 19. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Superintendent Centeno reminded the Commissioners that interviews for <br /> new appointees will be held on July 17 and appointments will be made at the <br /> August 14 Council meeting. <br /> -Chairperson Moran reported she attended the Stafford Park meeting on June <br /> 21 to express her views on the traffic issues. She mentioned that there was <br /> discussion about placing a 4-way stop sign at King Street and Hopkins <br /> Avenue. Superintendent Centeno advised the Commission that an interim <br /> use policy has been established for Stafford Park which does not allow the <br /> use of inflatable play structures, functions that section off portions of the <br /> parks, and groups of over 25 people. She also stated that a staff person is <br /> working at Stafford Park on Saturdays and Sundays from 7:OOam-3:OOpm <br /> and is surveying park patrons. Superintendent Centeno explained that the <br /> goal of the June 21 meeting was to get the neighbors' concerns out and <br /> discuss ways they could be addressed, and there will be a follow up meeting. <br /> She stated that Mrs. Elizabeth Travers of 27 Lowell Street came to the Civic <br />
