Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,January 11,2001 <br /> Because the Commission was missing three Commissioners at this meeting, <br /> the Commissioners agreed to wait until the February meeting before <br /> approving the draft action plan. <br /> ITEM 2 - WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> It was reported that Commissioner L. Walsh is still working with Mark Simon <br /> on a date for the next luncheon. The Commissioners discussed charging a <br /> higher price to luncheon attendees due to the fact that the Advisory Council <br /> makes up the cost difference for the lunch program. It was suggested that <br /> the luncheon be advertised as a special event with proceeds going back into <br /> the Advisory Council's Nutrition Program. <br /> -Strategic Planning Committee Update <br /> No report at this time. <br /> ITEM 3 — LACK OF PUBLIC SEATING AT SEQUOIA STATION <br /> Commissioner Carpe suggested to the Commissioners that if someone is in <br /> need of a place to sit while waiting for transportation to arrive while they are <br /> at Sequoia Station, that they ask one of the stores for a chair. <br /> A senior patron came into the Redwood Room and was unhappy with the <br /> temperature of the Sunset Room where she was playing cards and she asked <br /> to have this matter taken care of. <br /> ITEM 4 — MONTHLY REPORT FROM FAIR OAKS SENIOR CENTER <br /> The Commissioners were provided with activity reports from the Fair Oaks <br /> Senior Center and Director Centeno noted that activity has continued at <br /> previous levels and there has been no decline in the number of patrons using <br /> the facility. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Commissioner M. Walsh reported that Commissioner L. Walsh asked that the <br /> Commission send a letter to Governor Davis regarding the energy crisis and <br /> its effect on the senior population. Commissioner L. Walsh also requested <br /> that the Commission find out how Sequoia Hospital District is spending funds <br /> it received as a result of a property tax passed within the past few years. <br /> The Commissioners discussed the matter and requested that these items be <br /> placed on the February agenda for further discussion. <br /> -Director Centeno stated that Community Development Director Deborah <br /> Nelson may speak at our February meeting to give an update on the <br /> Downtown Task Force. <br />
