The Burlingame and Millbrae School Districts as well as the Redwood <br /> City Library were recommended as sources of information for establishing <br /> tutoring programs. <br /> Dave Stewart, Manager of Governmental Projects for the Redwood City <br /> School District, invited the Commissioners to participate in the "Principal for a <br /> Day" program on October 24, 2001. He also volunteered to provide tours of <br /> the various schools to increase awareness of coaching, tutoring and volunteer <br /> opportunities as well as possible adult sports leagues and classes. <br /> Superintendent Crates offered the use of school buses for tours. <br /> Chairperson Harrison will present the School District's collaborative proposal <br /> to the Veterans Memorial Senior Center Advisory Council at its next meeting <br /> and to the VMSC organizations. Susan Houston was requested to present the <br /> proposal to the Fair Oaks Senior Center. Commissioner Harrison was asked <br /> to present Superintendent Crates with the information and findings gathered <br /> from the various groups. Manager Linda Griffith reported that she has been <br /> asked to participate on this project with the Redwood City School District and <br /> Redwood City 2020. <br /> ITEM 2 — SENIOR SERVICES UPDATE — LINDA GRIFFITH, SUSAN <br /> HOUSTON <br /> Linda Griffith reported for Marlene Annuzzi and presented the Commissioners <br /> with a Newsflash Update of Senior Services. The Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center and Rosener House are working to bridge services. The social worker <br /> at Rosener House and Marlene will now meet once a month. Further <br /> collaboration is planned for future projects as well. There is a request for <br /> proposals out for a newly created Title 3-E "Family Caregiver Support <br /> Program" through the County. It would re-authorize the Older Americans Act <br /> to establish a funding category for family caregiver support programs. The <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center has been requested to participate in two <br /> research projects by Stanford Center for Research and Disease Prevention. <br /> One of the research projects is requesting participants for an around the <br /> clock wellness study involving sleep disorders. The second project is the <br /> Community Health Advice Telephone (CHAT). This project is requesting <br /> participants' involvement in a study of telephone counseling strategies to <br /> help participants start and maintain regular, moderate exercise programs. <br /> Susan Houston of Family Service Agency and Director of Senior Services at <br /> Fair Oaks Community Center, distributed the August calendar of activities for <br /> Fair Oaks Senior Center and told of the Center's use of Rediwheels, daily <br /> lunch program, ESL classes and the new bilingual garden club. The Fair Oaks <br /> Senior Center also works with Legal Aid and Sequoia Adult School at their <br /> site. Renovation will begin soon at the FOCC office and lounge areas. Family <br /> Service Agency hopes to bring their multi-lingual Senior Employment <br /> Program to the Fair Oaks Center which matches adults age 55 and over with <br />
