149
proved by the Planning Commission , permission was granted on motion of Councilman Eva,
seconded by Councilman Fletcher.
Bryce Muir , representing the General Petroleum Company , asked permission to establish their
general plant , as well as a service station , on property owned by them near the corner
of the Bayshore Highway and Jefferson Avenue . The Planning Commission had approved the
proposal , and therefore , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva,
permission was granted.
Councilman Eva emphasized the congestion in the local theaters , especially on certain nights ,
and wished to know what , if anything , could be done about it as he considered it extremely
dangerous . It was decided that no ordinance covering the situation was necessary at this
time , but the matter was referred to the City Manager to take up with the Police and Fire
Departments and the Managers of the theaters in an effort to eliminate the hazard.
On motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , it was established , as a general
principle , that all municipal play grounds and recreational areas be open for occupancy
and use on Sundays.
On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva, permission was given to hold
open two nights late in October for the semi-finals and finals for the City tennis
championship in connection with the Redwood City Tribune Tennis Tournament .
The City Manager reported concerning his meeting with representatives to plan for Redwood City
a float for the an Mateo County Floral Fiesta and explained that a suitable float might
cost about $400 or more , but he had considered the City should not contribute more than
$250 toward it . The matter was finally left up to the City Manager as to the amount of
money to be expended.
Affidavit of B . E. Myers , City Clerk , in the matter of the notification of election officers ,
the mailing of sample ballots and precinct cards and publicity pamphlets for the special
municipal election held in the City of Redwood City on the 24th day of September , 1935 ,
and the affidavit of Vera Clements in the matter of publishing Ordinance No . 362 calling
said special election and in the matter of publishing notice of election and nominees for
public office , were , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McCarthy,
and carried , received and filed.
This being the time fixed for canvassing the returns of the special municipal
election held in the City of Redwood City , on Tuesday the 24th day of September , 1935 ,
which election was held pursuant to Ordinance No . 362 of the Council of the City of
Redwood City, said Council examined the returns of said special election as delivered by
the Clerk of said city , and found the same sealed and in proper condition.
Said Council thereupon proceeded to open and canvass said returns in public ,
and estimate and compute the votes cast at said special election , and hereby declares
the result of said election as follows , to-wit :
That the following proposition was voted upon at said special election.
PROPOSITION: Shall the City of Redwood City incur a bonded indebtedness
in the principal sum of $425 ,000 . 00 in accordance with the
provisions of the ordinance calling the election at which this proposition
