162 <br /> WHEREAS , this "Floral Fiesta" created a unified interest <br /> and a spirit of cooperation on the part of the citizens which was <br /> most gratifying , and <br /> VfltEREAS , a greater interest and cooperation could and <br /> would have been manifested had the people better understood the aims , <br /> objects , and purposes of said "Floral Fiesta" , and <br /> WHEREAS , it seems possible to hold annually such a "Floral <br /> Fiesta" of ever growing interest and increasing value with each <br /> succeeding year , <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of <br /> Redwood City hereby heartily endorses the work of the festival Com- <br /> mittee , and pledges its support for the coming year in endeavoring <br /> to create an interest on the part of the people of the community to <br /> patronize a county wide display of the nature of that just held , and. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that if such "Floral. Fiesta" be <br /> held , Redwood City shall set aside a day to be known as "REDWOOD <br /> CITY DAY" at the "Floral Fiesta" , and. a week prior thereto , the <br /> streets of Redwood City shall be decorated fittingly to call atten- <br /> tion to the day. <br /> Following the discussion of Councilman Eva concerning the licensing of various and <br /> sundry solicitors , the City Attorney was asked to check up on the regulations <br /> for granting such licenses . <br /> At this time , there being a full attendance at the Council meeting , the City Manager ' s <br /> recommendation for increase in salary of four employees came up for discussion <br /> in which practically all the Councilmen participated. Finally , on motion of <br /> Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman Eva , it was decided to increase the <br /> salary of Margaret Cussen from $125 . 00 to $135 . 00 per month , effective October 1 , <br /> 1935 . In addition , Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva , proposed <br /> increasing the salary of the Poundman , A. McKay , from $115. 00 to $125 . 00 , effec- <br /> tive October 1 . Carried. Likewise , Councilman McCarthy proposed increasing <br /> the salary of Mary Rolla, Stenographer , but the motion was lost for the want of <br /> a second. <br /> Mayor Lambert spoke of the desirability of definite further progress in harbor <br /> development , indicating that the present was a particularly favorable time to <br /> proceed. William Vielhauer , Editor of the Redwood City Tribune , also addressed <br /> the Council explaining certain phases of the situation. On motion of Councilman <br /> Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen , it was decided to ask the Citizens ' <br /> Advisory Board , with the cooperation of the Chamber of Commerce and County and <br /> City Officials , to make a survey of the possibilities and requirements and report <br /> to the Council what action would be advisable . <br /> The departmental reports were ordered filed. <br /> The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by <br /> Councilman Jones . <br /> Adjournment . <br /> AA <br /> City Clerk <br /> BEM: MR I <br />
