162 WHEREAS , this "Floral Fiesta" created a unified interest and a spirit of cooperation on the part of the citizens which was most gratifying , and VfltEREAS , a greater interest and cooperation could and would have been manifested had the people better understood the aims , objects , and purposes of said "Floral Fiesta" , and WHEREAS , it seems possible to hold annually such a "Floral Fiesta" of ever growing interest and increasing value with each succeeding year , NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Redwood City hereby heartily endorses the work of the festival Com- mittee , and pledges its support for the coming year in endeavoring to create an interest on the part of the people of the community to patronize a county wide display of the nature of that just held , and. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that if such "Floral. Fiesta" be held , Redwood City shall set aside a day to be known as "REDWOOD CITY DAY" at the "Floral Fiesta" , and. a week prior thereto , the streets of Redwood City shall be decorated fittingly to call atten- tion to the day. Following the discussion of Councilman Eva concerning the licensing of various and sundry solicitors , the City Attorney was asked to check up on the regulations for granting such licenses . At this time , there being a full attendance at the Council meeting , the City Manager ' s recommendation for increase in salary of four employees came up for discussion in which practically all the Councilmen participated. Finally , on motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman Eva , it was decided to increase the salary of Margaret Cussen from $125 . 00 to $135 . 00 per month , effective October 1 , 1935 . In addition , Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Eva , proposed increasing the salary of the Poundman , A. McKay , from $115. 00 to $125 . 00 , effec- tive October 1 . Carried. Likewise , Councilman McCarthy proposed increasing the salary of Mary Rolla, Stenographer , but the motion was lost for the want of a second. Mayor Lambert spoke of the desirability of definite further progress in harbor development , indicating that the present was a particularly favorable time to proceed. William Vielhauer , Editor of the Redwood City Tribune , also addressed the Council explaining certain phases of the situation. On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen , it was decided to ask the Citizens ' Advisory Board , with the cooperation of the Chamber of Commerce and County and City Officials , to make a survey of the possibilities and requirements and report to the Council what action would be advisable . The departmental reports were ordered filed. The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman Jones . Adjournment . AA City Clerk BEM: MR I
