164 The City Manager filed formal resignation , effective December 1 , and upon motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , his resignation was accepted and a vote of thanks from the Council members given him for his service . In connection with the selling or leasing of property in certain residential districts to orientals or negroes , on motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , the Laity Attorney was instructed to write a letter to real estate agents in Redwood City asking their cooperation toward eliminating this situation. Further discussion of the Buben matter was laid over until the next meeting . In a written communication the Chamber of Commerce asked the City to assume the res- ponsibility of decorating the streets for the Christmas Holidays . Chief Ryan , of the Fire Department , was asked to estimate the cost of stringing electric lights on the principal streets and also to find out what could be done for providing greens for the decorations. Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman Christensen , proposed the adoption of the following resolution which was unanimously carried: RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Redwood City that E. A. ROLISON , CITY MANAGER , and C . L. DIMMITT , CITY ENGINEER , be and they are hereby authorized to sign , on behalf of the City of Redwood. City, the agreement with the Department of Public Works , Division of Highways , State of California , concerning the expendi- ture of the 1/4 cent Highway Fund allocated to the City for the present biennium, 1935-37. It was decided to do nothing at present toward selecting a City Manager as successor to E. A. Rolison , and for the interim , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty , C . L. Dimmitt , City Engineer , was appointed Manager pro tem. The approved claims were ordered paid on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman Fletcher. Adjournment .
