x. 69 <br /> Councilman Fletcher thought it would be a good idea to make some effort to beautify the <br /> easterly side of El Camino Real along the Southern Pacific property south of Whipple <br /> Avenue , and on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , the <br /> matter was referred to the City Manager and Park Superintendent to look into the <br /> matter and perhaps take it up with the Southern Pacific people to see what could <br /> be done . <br /> The Clerk was asked to take up with the "Bear" people the question of improving their bear <br /> in Wellesley Park as it seemed to be in a sad state of repair . <br /> Councilman Fletcher asked the Council , and especially Chief Collins , whether or not it <br /> ;could be wise to paint a strip across the street at the main entrance to the Sequoia <br /> Union High School . The matter was referred to Chief Collins . <br /> Councilman McCarthy reported that one Mrs . Gillis had fallen on the sidewalk near the <br /> Methodist Church and had sustained an injury to her ankles and had threatened to <br /> sue the City . In connection with this accident , Councilman McCarthy , seconded by <br /> Councilman Jones , proposed that when any sidewalk is reported defective by City <br /> Officials , or those employed by the City Officials , the property owners should be <br /> seen and repairs satisfactory to the Street Superintendent should be requested. <br /> Carried. <br /> Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , proposed the adoption of Resolution <br /> accepting a Deed of Easement from the Associated Oil Company for right-of-way. <br /> Carried. <br /> Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , proposed the adoption of Resolu- <br /> tion_ accepting a Deed from the Peninsula Improvement Company for right-of-way. <br /> Carried. <br /> In connection with the right-of-way for sewer and also for P . G . & E . power line over the <br /> General Petroleum Company , a tentative statement was submitted to which the City <br /> was asked to consent . However , due to one ambiguous statement , the Manager was <br /> asked to get the approval of the General Petroleum Company to the omission of this <br /> particular statement , and if so consented , the Mayor was authorized to sign the <br /> statement . This on motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman McNulty . <br /> The City Attorney reported concerning his attendance at the hearing of the Railroad <br /> Commission for the closing of Beech Street and told the Council that the matter <br /> had not been decided and the affair continued until February 6 , 1936 . <br /> On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty , Mrs . Cora Tucker , for the <br /> Seventh Day Adventists , was given permission to head up a group of persons who were <br /> to sell pop corn on the business streets of Redwood City for three days , to be <br /> chosen by them; Councilman McCarthy voting "No" . <br /> The City Manager spoke of wooden bridge work along the west side of E1 Camino Real in <br /> front of private property which is used for business purposes as being defective <br /> in several places and he thought some consideration should be given to it . He <br /> was told to take this matter up with Col . Skeggs of the Highway Commission to see <br /> who is actually liable , and also in those places where the material is defective to <br />
