18 `,3 <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> MARCH 2 , 1936 <br /> g : oo P . M . <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , C . G . Lambert , L. C . Christensen , <br /> J . M. Eva , E . A. Fletcher , R. N. Jones , P. A . McCarthy , Geo . W. McNulty and City Clerk , <br /> B . E . Myers . Absent : None . <br /> The minutes of the meeting of February 17 , 1936 , were approved on motion of Councilman Christensen , <br /> seconded by Councilman McNulty. <br /> A letter was received from G. Chevassus , attached to which was a petition signed by quite a <br /> number of people requesting a change in the location of the parking place for the Emerald <br /> Lake and Woodside busses . Inasmuch as the City Manager and the Chief of Police considered <br /> the present arrangement satisfactory , it was decided to permit it to remain , and it was so <br /> ordered , on motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , with instruc- <br /> tions to the Clerk to write a letter to Mr. Chevassus to that effect . <br /> The Clerk read a letter from the League of California Municipalities , by Richard Graves , Secretary , <br /> explaining , first , that the proposal now referred to as a repeal of the sales tax would , as <br /> an inevitable result , mean at the end of five years that the State would be assessing <br /> property under what is known as single tax , that is , the entire tax would fall on the land <br /> only . On motion of Councilman Eva , seconded by Councilman Jones , the Council went on record <br /> as being opposed to the repeal of the sales tax in consideration of the result which would <br /> follow. <br /> A second point made by Mr. Graves was a discussion of the mandatory Civil Service proposal , <br /> and the Council went on record as opposing such Civil Service proposal for cities the size <br /> of Redwood City , on motion of Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman McCarthy. <br /> Councilman Christensen , seconded by Councilman McCarthy , moved the introduction of ordinance <br /> rezoning Block 2 of Diller ' s Addition from business district to light industrial district . <br /> ( Lot intended for laundry opposite postoffice. ) Carried. <br /> Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , offerred the following resolution and <br /> moved its adoption. Carried unanimously. <br /> Councilman McCarthy ffers the following ' <br /> �Y ng resolution and moves <br /> its adoption , to--wit : <br /> Section 1 . WHEREAS , pursuant to the provisions of the charter <br /> of the City of Redwood City , in the County of San Mateo , State of California , <br /> there is to be held on Monday , the 13th day of April , 1936 , a general muni- <br /> cipal election in said City of Redwood City . <br /> NOW , THEREFORE , the Council of the City of Redwood City does <br /> hereby resolve and determine as follows , to-wit : <br /> A general municipal election shall be held in the City of Redwood <br /> City , as provided by the charter of said city , on Monday, the 13th day of <br /> April , 1936 , at which election there shall be elected four ( 4) members of <br /> the Council of said City of Redwood City for the full term of four ( 4+) <br /> years each . <br /> AID BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Redwood <br /> City that for the purpose of such general municipal election the City of <br /> Redwood City is divided into eight ( S ) election precincts to be known as <br /> and designated Redwood City Municipal Election Precinct No . 1 ; Redwood <br /> City Municipal Election Precinct No . 2 ; Redwood City Municipal Election <br /> Precinct No . 3 ; Redwood City Municipal Election Precinct No . 4 ; Redwood <br /> City Municipal Election Precinct No . 5 ; Redwood City Municipal Election <br /> Precinct No . 6; Redwood City Municipal Election Precinct No . 7 ; and <br /> Redwood City Municipal Election Precinct No . g . Said. above named election <br />
