<br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL.

<br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor , Paul A. McCarthy, J. M. Eva,
<br /> E. A. Fletcher , Wm Hohn, R. N. Jones , G. W. McNulty and City Clerk , B. E. Myers.
<br /> Absent : Councilman L. C . Christensen.
<br /> Several property owners along Whipple Road complained about water pressure in the pipes as
<br /> well as disturbing noises . The City Manager assured them that the noise in the pipes
<br /> would be eliminated within a day or two , but that considerable difficulty might be en-
<br /> countered in trying to increase the pressure . It was suggested that within two or
<br /> three weeks , arrangements might be made to take over a separate system which would
<br /> deliver to them directly water from the San Francisco Water Company in which event they
<br /> would receive better water and pressure , but an increased rate would be necessary, this
<br /> rate to be approximately 10% higher than the present , plus a monthly service charge of
<br /> 500. The complainants , after consultation , unanimously expressed themselves as favor-
<br /> ing the proposed San Francisco service should this become available .
<br /> On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, Ordinance was introduced fix-
<br /> ing and establishing the tax rate for the current fiscal year.
<br /> Letter from E. C. Stewart of Stockton concerning payment of 1915 Act Bonds was referred to
<br /> the City Attorney for reply.
<br /> Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Jones , proposed adoption of resolution accepting
<br /> an Easement from G. A, and Lola A. Stryker for a five foot strip of land in Oak Knoll
<br /> Heights for the purpose of the Water Department. Carried.
<br /> Councilman Fletcher submitted a letter helad received from the Southern Pacific Company, by
<br /> A. T . Mercier , in which some 2g6 ,000 square feet of the company' s realty holdings in
<br /> Redwood City were offered at a price of $60 ,0100 . The Clerk was asked to thank them
<br /> for the letter and to explain that the City was in no financial position at present to
<br /> handle the proposal .
<br /> On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Eva, C. G. Uhlenberg , Special Auditor ,
<br /> was re-appointed for the current fiscal year as Auditor for the City' s records , with the
<br /> understanding that quarterly audit would be made and that the maximum charge should not
<br /> exceed. $425. 00.
<br /> On motion of Councilman Eva, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the Mayor was authorized to
<br /> appoint three members as a committee to consult with representatives of the Portland
<br /> Cement Company regarding proposed annexation to the City of Redwood City of the Company' s
<br /> property. Mayor McCarthy appointed to act with him on the Committee , Councilmen Chris-
<br /> tensen and Fletcher.
<br /> Approval of application for dance permits came before the Council , and after considerable dis-
<br /> cussion they were not approved, with Mayor McCarthy and Councilmen Eva and McNulty voting
<br /> "Pest' and Councilmen Jones , Fletcher and Hohn voting !Non . Following a discussion, on
<br /> motion of Councilman Jones , seconded by Councilman Eva, it was decided that the sentiment
<br /> of the Council , or its policy, would be that after September 30 no dancing should be al/-
<br /> lowed in any room or premises where liquor , including.. wine and beer, would be sold, and.
<br /> the Attorney was accordingly instructed to prepare an ordinance or amendment to an ordi-
<br /> nance covering the situation.
<br /> The departmental reports were ordered filed.
<br /> The approved claims were ordered paid, on motion of Councilman McNulty , seconded by Councilman
<br /> Eva,
