<br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present ; Mayor Paul A. McCarthy , J. M. Eva ,
<br /> E . A. Fletcher , Wm. Hohn , R. N. Jones , G. W. McNulty and City Clerk , B. E. Myers .
<br /> Absent : Councilman L . C . Christensen.
<br /> The minutes of the meeting of February 15 , 1937 , were approved , on motion of Councilman
<br /> McNulty , seconded by Councilman Hohn.
<br /> The following letters , after being read , were ordered filed:
<br /> Stuart W. Copps , of the Highlands District Improvement Club , concerning the
<br /> Emerald Lake Bus Hearing before the State Railroad Commission.
<br /> H . H. Weiner , offering his services as a member of the City Planning Commission.
<br /> California Municipal Utilities Association , calling attention to a regional con-
<br /> ference at Sacramento , March 4 , 1937 .
<br /> Henry W. Edmonds., Secretary of the Redwood City Port Commission., announcing the
<br /> next meeting of that Commission , and the present temporary headquarters at
<br /> the Chamber of Commerce building.
<br /> K . C. Sanders, Secretary of the Painters ' Local , calling attention to a discrepancy
<br /> in the published wage scale , and stating that the local wage for painters is
<br /> $8. 00 for 7 hours ' work, between g : 30 a. m. to 4: 30 p . m.
<br /> Sanford B. Dole , Secretary pro-tem of the Redwood City Library Trustees , expressing
<br /> appreciation for the assistance rendered by the City Manager and his men during
<br /> the recent flood waters .
<br /> Mrs. Chas. Nilson wished to have a light , or lights , placed near the corner of Beech and
<br /> Hilton Streets , and the matter was referred to the Manager for his recommendation.
<br /> J. W. Dean , representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars , told the Council his organization
<br /> was preparing to donate to the City each year certain trees , probably Redwood trees ,
<br /> and wanted to know if the City would accept them and where they should be placed.
<br /> He was told that the City would be glad to accept them , and the matter was referred
<br /> to the City Manager to work out with the organization.
<br /> As requested , the City Manager filed report concerning the garbage situation , giving some
<br /> very interesting statistics in comparison with Berkeley , Palo Alto and Daly City ,
<br /> but making no definite recommendation as he wished the matter to be considered
<br /> further by him and also by the Council . Upon his request , and on motion of Councilman
<br /> Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty , the Mayor appointed a committee of two from
<br /> the Council to work with Mr. Dimmitt , to make a final report not later than March 15 ,
<br /> at which time the matter would have to be decided. Mayor McCarthy asked. Councilmen
<br /> Jones and McNulty to serve with Mr. Dimmitt .
<br /> This was the time set for hearing on Resolution of Intention 1937-1 , concerning the annexa-
<br /> tion of certain property near the Harbor. There being no objections , either oral or
<br /> written , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman McNulty , Ordinance
<br /> was introduced calling an annexation election for May 11 , 1937 .
<br /> After filing Affidavit of Posting of Advertisement for Bids for Accessory Construction to
<br /> the Wharf and Transit Shed , the City Manager made report on the bids submitted to him
<br /> for this work, and recommended that the bid of W. 0. Tyson , although exceeding con-
<br /> siderably the estimate , should be accepted and the contract awarded to him. Tyson' s
