276 <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> MARCH 15 , 1937 <br /> 8 : 00 P . M. <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor Paul A. McCarthy , L . C . <br /> Christensen , J . M . Eva , E. A. Fletcher , Wm. Hohn , R, N. Jones , G. W. McNulty and <br /> City Clerk , B . E. Myers . Absent : None . <br /> The minutes of the regular meeting of March 1 and the special meeting of March S , 1937 , <br /> were approved on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Christensen. <br /> A petition was presented by Rosario Patane requesting that Lot 10 in the Hess Trace be <br /> rezoned from second residential to business . The application was referred to the <br /> Planning Commission. <br /> Frank A. DePatta , representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars , spoke to the Council about <br /> a proposed festival to celebrate Redwood City Harbor , and asked the Council to ap- <br /> propriate toward the expenses of such a festival the sum of $1 , 000 . On motion of <br /> Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Hohn , the Mayor was asked to appoint a <br /> committee of two Councilmen and two Port Commissioners to work with the Manager in <br /> connection with this proposed festival . <br /> Stanton Mullen , representing the Safety-First Committee of the American Legion , reported <br /> the Legion recommended that the City establish a traffic lane across Broadway about <br /> the middle of the block , between Perry Street and El Camino Real . The suggestion <br /> was referred to the Manager , with request that he make report . <br /> In a, letter , signed by L . E. Wolbert as Chairman of the Committee , the Lions Club of Red- <br /> wood City offered to cooperate in a tree planting scheme along the Bayshore Blvd. <br /> After discussion , it was decided to refer this matter to the City Manager and to <br /> Mr. Wolbert to make a report back to the Council as to the cost and the feasibility <br /> of the plan. <br /> Nettie J . Heyer , of the Nurses ' Home at the U . S . Veterans Facility , Palo Alto , made <br /> written application to conduct a private practice of electric therapy on the west <br /> side of Arch Street and north of Hopkins Avenue . The request was referred to the <br /> Planning Commission. <br /> The Committee consisting of Councilmen Jones and McNulty , with the City Manager , appointed <br /> to report concerning the advisability of renewing the present contract for garbage <br /> collection , made report and recommended that the present contract be renewed for a <br /> period of five years subject to an amended agreement that in case the number of <br /> services within the present area served is increased at any time during the life of <br /> this contract to the extent of 50%, that the amount paid the contractor be reduced <br /> to 75% of the amount collected. On motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by <br /> Council man Hohn , the Council accepted the report and instructed the City Manager <br /> to renew the agreement in accordance with recommendation made . <br /> In connection with the collection of garbage , the Mayor appointed the Manager , the City <br /> Attorney , and the City Health Officer to check the present garbage ordinance and <br /> work out a plan for a complete city-wide coverage . <br />
