X60- A <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MTI TING <br /> R "D"TOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> OCTOB?R 17 , 193g <br /> S : 00 P . M . <br /> Upon roll call the following were present : Councilmen H . F. Anderson , E . A. <br /> Fletcher , Win. Hohn , R. Y. Jones , P. A. McCarthy , G. W . McNulty , Mayor L . C . <br /> Christensen , a: d City Clerk B . E. Myers. <br /> The minutes of the meetings of October 3 and. October 10 were approved on motion of <br /> Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher. <br /> Further discussion was had concerning the operation of the bus line , and Mr. Vandervort <br /> reported , together with Councilman Fletcher , that they had been successful in <br /> obtaining advertising agreements with a sufficient number of the merchants of <br /> the city to justify continuing the bus operation provided the City hire Mr. <br /> Vandervort for $100 a month to work un more business . Councilman McCarthy , <br /> seconded by Councilman Fletcher , proposed that the City employ Mr. Vandervort <br /> for 12 months beginning October 1 , 1935 , at a rate of $100 per month , to build <br /> up the business of the bus line with the understanding that its operation was <br /> desirable for people of Redwood City , and also that the rate of $100 would be <br /> decreased were the business of the bus line sufficient to justify it . Motion <br /> carried with Mayor Christensen voting "Not' . <br /> Mr. Victor Canavese of the Woodside Gardeners explained their desire to have a flower <br /> show October 2g in the Women ' s Club House and asked the Council if some assist- <br /> ance from the City could be given them. On motion of Councilman McCarthy , <br /> seconded by Councilman Anderson , it was decided to donate two trophies , the <br /> total cost not to exceed $25 . <br /> There was read a letter from the United Veterans Council of Redwood City asking that <br /> something definite be done toward opening Rogers Street from Arguello to the <br /> Bayshore Highway. The Clerk was inEtructed. to write to the Veterans Council <br /> to explain. that the further development of Valota Road had seemed necessary <br /> and that the project had been put ahead of the extension of Rogers Street , <br /> but that Rogers Street would have the attention of the City perhaps early <br /> next spring. <br /> Following the request of the Gilmore Oil Company and the recommendation of the City <br /> Planning Commision , permission was given for the construction of a service <br /> station at the southwesterly corner of Hopkins and El Camino Real , Lot 1 , Block <br /> 3 , Dingee Park , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Anderson. <br /> As recommended by the Planning Commission , permission was given to the Redwood <br /> Highlands Company to subdivide Lot .2 of Block 1 , Oak Knoll Manor , into 2 lots <br /> each 50 feet by 139 . 77 feet , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by <br />
