X60- A MINUTES OF REGULAR MTI TING R "D"TOOD CITY COUNCIL OCTOB?R 17 , 193g S : 00 P . M . Upon roll call the following were present : Councilmen H . F. Anderson , E . A. Fletcher , Win. Hohn , R. Y. Jones , P. A. McCarthy , G. W . McNulty , Mayor L . C . Christensen , a: d City Clerk B . E. Myers. The minutes of the meetings of October 3 and. October 10 were approved on motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher. Further discussion was had concerning the operation of the bus line , and Mr. Vandervort reported , together with Councilman Fletcher , that they had been successful in obtaining advertising agreements with a sufficient number of the merchants of the city to justify continuing the bus operation provided the City hire Mr. Vandervort for $100 a month to work un more business . Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Fletcher , proposed that the City employ Mr. Vandervort for 12 months beginning October 1 , 1935 , at a rate of $100 per month , to build up the business of the bus line with the understanding that its operation was desirable for people of Redwood City , and also that the rate of $100 would be decreased were the business of the bus line sufficient to justify it . Motion carried with Mayor Christensen voting "Not' . Mr. Victor Canavese of the Woodside Gardeners explained their desire to have a flower show October 2g in the Women ' s Club House and asked the Council if some assist- ance from the City could be given them. On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Anderson , it was decided to donate two trophies , the total cost not to exceed $25 . There was read a letter from the United Veterans Council of Redwood City asking that something definite be done toward opening Rogers Street from Arguello to the Bayshore Highway. The Clerk was inEtructed. to write to the Veterans Council to explain. that the further development of Valota Road had seemed necessary and that the project had been put ahead of the extension of Rogers Street , but that Rogers Street would have the attention of the City perhaps early next spring. Following the request of the Gilmore Oil Company and the recommendation of the City Planning Commision , permission was given for the construction of a service station at the southwesterly corner of Hopkins and El Camino Real , Lot 1 , Block 3 , Dingee Park , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Anderson. As recommended by the Planning Commission , permission was given to the Redwood Highlands Company to subdivide Lot .2 of Block 1 , Oak Knoll Manor , into 2 lots each 50 feet by 139 . 77 feet , on motion of Councilman Fletcher , seconded by
