464 MINUTES OF ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL NOVEMBER 2 , 1938 8 : 00 P. M. Upon roll call the following were present : Councilmen H. F. Anderson, E . A. Fletcher , Wm. Rohn , R. N. Jones , P. A. McCarthy , G. W. McNulty , Mayor L. C . Christensen , and City Clerk B . E. Myers. The City Manager submitted the following letter concerning bids for the construction of Public Library and recommended that the contract be awarded to the G. W. Williams Company of Burlingame . "The following bids were received for the construction of the Public Library , P. W. A. Project No. 1992-F: 1 ) Moore and. Roberts $73 , 763 2) Central California Construction Company 80 , 346 3) G. W. Williams Co. 69 , 290 4) W. C . Tait , Inc. 78 ,400 5) R. A. McLean & Co. g4 ,9oo 6 ) F. J. Reilly Co. 71 ,431 I recommend that the contract be awarded , subject to approval of the Public Works Administration , to the low bidder , G. T. Williams Company , in the amount of $69 , 290 , subject to deductive alternates Item 3a substituting; rock lath and plaster in place of metal lath and plaster in the amount of $500 ; and 3b providing main entrance doors of bronze Kalamein in the amount of $300 , making the net amount of contract $68 ,190. This exceeds the original estimate of construction cost by Mr. Mitchell , but is within the estimates allowed for extras and contingencies. " Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman McNulty, proposed the adoption of resolution awarding the contract to the G. W. Williams Company as -proposed by Mr . Dimmitt with the understanding that the three lowest bids would be retained and the Clerk authorized to return the checks of the unsuccessful bidders. Carried. The City Manager submitted the following letter covering bids received for the construction of a City Hall . "The following bids were received for the construction of the City Hall addition, P. W. A. Project No . 1991-F: 1 ) Moore and Roberts $83 , 900 2) Central California Construction Company 84 , 727 3) G . W. Williams Go. 54 , 897 4) Carl H. Swenson & Go. 85 , 750 5 ) C . A. McLean & Co . 91 ,900 6 ) Frank J. Reilly Co. 78 , 831 I recommend that the contract be awarded to Frank J . Reilly Company , the low bidder in the amount of $78 ,831 , subject to deductive alternates Item No . 3a substituting rock lath and plaster in place of metal lath and plaster , $1200 , thus making the net total of bid $77 , 631 , subject to approval of the P. W. A. " Councilman Fletcher , seconded by Councilman Anderson , proposed adoption of resolution cwarding the contract for the construction of the City Hall to Frank J . Reilly Co. with instructions to the Clerk to retain the three lowest bids and to return the checks of the unsuccessful bidders.
