411
Mr. O 'Keefe , the other owner of the property , in an effort to get some action.
The Attorney also presented a resolution accepting a deed from the Sequoia Union
High School District for the property now known as the library , and Councilman
Fletcher moved the adoption of the resolution, which was seconded by Councilman
McNulty and unanimously carried.
Mr . Walter Vandervort made report to the Council concerning the operation of his bus
line and indicated that while there had been a slight increase of patronage
from week to week , he was still running considerable of a deficit . . The members
of the Council expressed a willingness to cooperate with him, feeling that there
is a definite need for such a bus service . While , according to the City Attorney ,
it would be illegal to subsidize the operation of the bus line , it would be
proper to use city funds to hire Mr. Vandervort to work for the interest of the
bus lines , and it was decided, on motion of Councilman Anderson , seconded by
Councilman Fletcher, to engage the services of Mr. Vandervort for the months of
August , September , and October at a salary of $75 a month .
S. Kertz , representing Kertz and Son Feed and Fuel Store at 160 Maple , asked permission
to construct an annex of frame with galvanized iron covering to his present build-
ing . Permit granted on motion of Councilman Hohn, seconded by Councilman Anderson.
H . W. Treichel again appeared before the Council concerning the additional construction
he wished to make at the rear of the present laundry property . After hearing that
the north side would be filled in with hollow tile and the south side principally
of galvanized iron , permit was granted on motion of Councilman Anderson, seconded
by Councilman Jones .
There was considerable discussion, lead by Councilman McCarthy who reported for the
1915 Bond Committee , concerning the acquisition and handling of lots which the
City intends to take over because of delinquencies . T . J. Hallinan of the Calif-
ornia Pacific Title and Trust Company offered to the City the services of his
organization for the handling of the detail and preparation of papers incident
to formal proceedings for taking over the lots . This work , he assured the Council ,
would be done at approximate cost , a tentative figure being set of $5 per owner-
ship , where property had already been transferred by Quit Claim Deed, and $7 . 50
per ownership for others . The question was raised whether or not the expenditure
of the amount of money which this would mean ( there being something like a
thousand lots) should not require bids , the San Mateo County Title Company being
especially mentioned. Mr . Hallinan said that the San Mateo County Title Company
had agreed to his organization doing the work . To substantiate his statement ,
Mr . ioodhams of the Title Company was called in , and he personally indicated
