MINUTES OF REGULAR ;.STING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> FEBRUARY 19 , 1934 <br /> 8: 00 P .M. <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor W . J. Dusel , H. _A. Beeger, C . J. <br /> H:ild.ebrant , R. N. Jones , C. G. Lambert , Paul A. McCarthy, Geo. W . McNulty. City Clerk, <br /> 3 . E. Myers . Absent : None. <br /> The minutes of the meeting of February 5 were approved on notion of Councilman Beeger, seconded <br /> by Councilman Hildebrant . <br /> A. 3. Dempsey of the Veterans ' Council appeared before the City Council concerning his request <br /> to rent the Veterans ' Hall to non- veteran organizations and voluntarily withdrew his appli- <br /> cation, having learned there was some opposition to the idea. <br /> Al Anderson asked for a special rate for a weekly dance at the Foresters ' Hall with the possi- <br /> bility of also having special entertainment . On motion of Councilman Fildebrant , seconded <br /> by Councilman McCarthy , it was decided to grant a permit with the charge of $10. 00 a month <br /> for one night a week up to 12 p . m. <br /> On motion of Councilman Lambert , seconded by Councilman Beeger , a contribution of $50. 00 was <br /> granted to the Boy Scouts of America. <br /> Following up a previous suggestion , Councilman Beeger reported on his endeavor to correlate the <br /> County and City forces on the improvement of the Woodside Road. The contemplated project <br /> was estimated to cost about $35000 . 00 , of which the Civil Works Administration would be <br /> requested to furnish something like $34, 000 . 00 , leaving about $4, 300. 00 to be raised by <br /> the local community. Councilman Beeger asked. the Supervisors to appropriate this amount in <br /> consideration of the contribution already made by the City in placing culverts along the <br /> Woodside Road at the expense of approximately $9 , 000 .00. He reported that final decision <br /> was twat , of this approximate $4, 300 . 00 , the County would agree to contribute one—half, <br /> leaving the other half to the city. It was explained that part of this estimated $2 ,150. 00 <br /> could be handled by the regular city departments so that the actual cash to be secured would <br /> be about $1 , 500 . 00. On motion of Councilman Beeger , seconded by Councilman Hildebrant , it <br /> was therefore decided that the City Manager and City Engineer follow through on the appli- <br /> cation to make possible this improvement of the Woodside Road from the Highway to the Horgan <br /> Ranch line. <br /> The question of rezoning the two lots at the corner of Middlefield Road and Chestnut Street as <br /> required by D . L. Walter came up for hearing. Affidavit of The Tribune showing publication <br /> of notice was ordered filed. Howard J. Canine filed written and also presented an oral <br /> protest to the rezoning of these lots but after due consideration the ordinance instructing <br /> the City Engineer to rezone these lots was introduced , on motion of Councilman Mc xlty, <br /> seconded by Councilman Hildebrant . <br /> In regard to the waiving of the collection of weed tax as requested at the last meeting by <br /> D . L. Walter , the City Manager filed written report indicating the total delinquency in <br /> weed assessment to be over $2 , 200. 00 and recommending that no allowances be granted to <br /> individuals because it would necessitate the same treatment to all if the City were not to <br /> show discrimination.
