REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager September 12, 2016 SUBJECT Resolution approving the temporary street closure for the Sequoia Stampede event RECOMMENDATION Adopt a resolution designating the event route for the Sequoia Stampede event sponsored by the Sequoia High School Booster Club and approve the temporary partial closure of the streets along the route as represented on the accompanying map BACKGROUND This will be the 6th annual Sequoia Stampede event. ANALYSIS The Sequoia High School Booster Club is dedicated to assisting all of Sequoia High School’s sports teams with funding for uniforms, equipment, and sports awards nights, as well as promoting school spirit and assisting with the safe transportation of athletes to and from as many events as possible. All funds generated from the Sequoia Stampede will go towards supporting that mission, and the event itself is designed to teach students how to engage and embrace the community through the planning of such an event. On Saturday, September 24th, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., the 5k run begins and will go through the high school grounds, then south on Elwood Street, west on Katherine Avenue, north on Nevada Street and Outer Circle, west on Brewster Avenue, south on Topaz Street, east on James Avenue, north on Nevada Street, and then east on Katherine Avenue back to the school grounds. The event is expected to be completed no later than 11:00 a.m. Should alterations be required, any change to the race routes will be determined under the supervision and approval of the Police Chief or his designee. A map is attached for reference. Members of the Sequoia Booster Club have completed an extensive notification process, to include the gathering of signatures from, and the hanging informational door hangers to, the affected residents along the route.
