REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />September 12, 2016 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Resolution approving the temporary street closure for the Sequoia Stampede event <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution designating the event route for the Sequoia Stampede event <br />sponsored by the Sequoia High School Booster Club and approve the temporary partial <br />closure of the streets along the route as represented on the accompanying map <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />This will be the 6th annual Sequoia Stampede event. <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />The Sequoia High School Booster Club is dedicated to assisting all of Sequoia High <br />School’s sports teams with funding for uniforms, equipment, and sports awards nights, <br />as well as promoting school spirit and assisting with the safe transportation of athletes <br />to and from as many events as possible. All funds generated from the Sequoia <br />Stampede will go towards supporting that mission, and the event itself is designed to <br />teach students how to engage and embrace the community through the planning of <br />such an event. <br /> <br />On Saturday, September 24th, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., the 5k run begins and will go through <br />the high school grounds, then south on Elwood Street, west on Katherine Avenue, north <br />on Nevada Street and Outer Circle, west on Brewster Avenue, south on Topaz Street, <br />east on James Avenue, north on Nevada Street, and then east on Katherine Avenue <br />back to the school grounds. <br /> <br />The event is expected to be completed no later than 11:00 a.m. <br /> <br />Should alterations be required, any change to the race routes will be determined under <br />the supervision and approval of the Police Chief or his designee. A map is attached for <br />reference. <br /> <br />Members of the Sequoia Booster Club have completed an extensive notification <br />process, to include the gathering of signatures from, and the hanging informational door <br />hangers to, the affected residents along the route.
