ATTY/RESO.0086/CC RESO ADOPTING MAIN ST HISTORIC DISTRICT EXPANSION <br />REV: 09-01-16 JS <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY ADOPTING THE MAIN STREET HISTORIC <br />DISTRICT EXPANSION AND DESIGNATING THE PROPERTIES <br />AT 847-849 MAIN STREET, 935 MAIN STREET, AND 1101 MAIN <br />STREET AS HISTORIC LANDMARKS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS , Chapter 40 of the Redwood City Code sets forth criteria and <br />procedures by which the City Council may designate historic districts and historic <br />landmarks; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on October 28, 2002, the City Council adopted the Main <br />Street Historic District; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on April 10, 2014, the Historic Resources Advisory <br />Committee considered and recommended to proceed with the Main Street <br />Historic District Expansion designation process, which includes the designation <br />of the properties at 847-849 Main Street, 935 Main Street, and 1101 Main Street <br />as historic landmarks; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on March 3, 2015, the Planning Commission held a joint <br />study session with the Historic Resources Advisory Committee and determined <br />that an expansion of the Main Street Historic District was an objective worthy of <br />merit and should be given further consideration; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on March 24, 2015, the Historic Resources Advisory <br />Committee held an informational meeting for all property owners within the <br />proposed Main Street Historic District Expansion area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the City of Redwood City’s Historic <br />Preservation Ordinance, the Historic Resources Advisory Committee requested <br />that the Planning Commission recommend that the City Council adopt the Main <br />Street Historic District Expansion and designate the three properties located at <br />847-849 Main Street, 935 Main Street, and 1101 Main Street as local historic <br />landmarks; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on June 21, 2016, the Planning Commission voted 6-0 <br />(Commissioner Hale absent) to recommend that the City Council adopt the Main <br />Street Historic District Expansion and designate the three properties at 847-849 <br />Main Street, 935 Main Street, and 1101 Main Street as local historic landmarks; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on September 12, 2016, the City Council held a duly noticed <br />public hearing and considered public comments, the Main Street Historic District <br />Expansion and local historic landmark requests from the Historic Resources <br />7.B. - Page 79
