WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
21. Letter from Gary Dean, 27 Avondale Avenue, Redwood City requesting Council
action regarding excessive noise emanating from the Kentucky Fried Chicken
establishment located at 204 E1 Camino Real, Redwood City - continued from
Council Meeting of August 13, 1990 at Mr. Dean's request.
Gary Dean, 27 Avondale Avenue, Redwood City advised the Council that the
noise from the Kentucky Fried Chicken speakers could be heard in a 200 foot
radius and he and his neighbors considered it excessive.
Richard Sayer, 199 1st Street, Los Altos, Manager for Kentucky Fried
Chicken franchises described efforts to mitigate noise over the last two
years. In response to questions from Council Mr. Sayer advised the
equipment used was state -of- the -art and he would probably not consider
alternatives at this time, although he is ordering new wireless speakers to
replace the noisier telephone types now in use as back -ups.
Council discussed the noise impact study commissioned by Mr. Sayer and
agreed that the 74 db level at the speakers was excessive, although Mr.
Sayer advised the level was 64 db at the wall next to Mr. Dean's house.
CONSENSUS: It was determined by Mayor La Berge that it was the consensus of
the Council to request Mr. Dean and Mr. Sayer to work with Planning Director
Patterson to resolve this issue as good neighbors.
MEMO 8/28/90
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - --
EXECUTIVE SESSION
None
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADJOURNMENT
M /S: Stangel /Buchan to adjourn to 7:00 p.m. September, 17, 1990 for an
interview session.
Due to the Labor Day and Admission Day Holidays the next regular City Council
Meeting will be September 17, 1990 at the regular time of 7:30 p.m.
Arl Jar C
. or son
City Clerk
MINUTE BOOK NO. 50
Page No. 060 Reg.
