The Committee reviewed whether the changing of <br /> election cycles would impact the two year terms of Mayor and Vice Mayor under the <br /> Charter and determined it will not. Additionally, the Committee agreed with the City <br /> Clerk's recommendation to switch reappointment cycles of the BCCs as allowed by the <br /> City's Charter. The City's Charter was reviewed and the recommendation presented by <br /> the Committee complies with the Charter. <br /> Based on the information received and the deliberations at the two Committee <br /> meetings, the Committee recommends that the City Council introduce an ordinance <br /> extending the terms of each existing Council member by an additional twelve months <br /> and move the November 2017 election to November of 2018, and the Council members <br /> whose terms expire in November 2017 would serve until the new member is seated. <br /> Similarly, the November 2019 election would be moved to November of 2020, and the <br /> Council members whose terms expire in November 2019 would serve until the new <br /> member is seated. The ordinance must be sent to the Board of Supervisors and <br /> elections official of San Mateo County requesting that the election be consolidated. <br /> Within 30 days after approval of the ordinance by the Board of Supervisors, the City <br /> Clerk will be required to mail a notice to all registered voters in the City (37,525) <br /> informing them of the change in the election date.
