8.1.E. - Page 1 <br /> REPORT <br /> To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br /> October 24, 2016 <br /> SUBJECT <br /> Award Contract Utility Trench Repair <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> By motion, approve the agreement between the City of Redwood City and Bay Area <br /> Paving Co., Inc. for utility trench repairs and authorize the City Manager to execute the <br /> agreement, extend the agreement for additional periods, and increase the unit prices for <br /> any agreement extensions. Confirm determination that the project is exempt from <br /> CEQA. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> Public Works Services Department performs repairs on the City's underground utility <br /> infrastructure. The most common method to repair these assets is by means of <br /> trenching, often in the City's roadways or sidewalks. Public Works is responsible for <br /> maintaining and repairing the public right-of-way in a manner that is beneficial, timely <br /> and economical. <br /> ANALYSIS <br /> Bay Area Paving Company is the lowest responsible bidder and staff is confident that <br /> Bay Area Paving has the ability to perform work consistent with the City's engineering <br /> standards. <br /> Name of Bidder Cost <br /> Bay Area Paving Co., Inc. $ 475,500 <br /> JJR Construction Inc. $ 1,872,500 <br /> Sinoes Concrete No Bid <br /> Spencon Construction No Bid <br /> Bay Area Paving has performed several other contracts of this nature for the City. <br /> Public Works Services staff has determined that the use of contract work will benefit the <br />
