It was good to hear how many people had started biking as
a result of the changes. I especially appreciated the bravery of the kids getting up there in front
of the mic and saying what they needed to say. As density increases, cars are becoming less
and less practical. E-bikes are an excellent alternative. Drivers are often unaware that getting
folks out of their cars and onto bikes actually reduces traffic for them.
I live on Fernside, and I really don't think there has been an increase in traffic as a result of the
pilot project. The addition of speed humps on Fernside has had a far more dramatic effect,
reducing both speeding and car traffic, without reducing the substantial bike traffic. I think
there were some excellent suggestions to take into account when implementing the permanent
changes, such as soft-hit posts to separate the bike lane from the car lane would help prevent
angry drivers from using the bike lane as a passing lane, and green-striping the bike lane near
intersections. Thank you and the advisory committee for all the hard work making this
happen!
-
Peter Epstein
On Mon, Oct 17, 2016 at 7:36 PM CD-Jessica Manzi <jmanzi@redwoodcity.org> wrote:
Quick update:
8.A. - Page 80
