From:CD-Peter Delgado
To:CD-Stacy Nicol
Subject:FW: Two safety concerns about the Farm Hill Road Configuration
Date:Tuesday, October 25, 2016 2:29:10 PM
FH…
Thanks,
Peter Delgado, PE
Community Development Department
Phone: (650) 780-7373
From: Donald
Sent: Wednesday, October 19, 2016 2:10 PM
To: GRP-Farm Hill Feedback <farmhillfeedback@redwoodcity.org>
Subject: Two safety concerns about the Farm Hill Road Configuration
In general, I am very happy with the changes to Farm Hill Road and hope they become
permanent. There are two items I'd like to see improved:
1.As a bike rider, the new configuration is much safer except going Westbound (uphill)
beyond Eden Bower Lane. Above Eden Bower, where the curb changes from red to unpainted
for parking, when cars park in the first 2 to 3 car lengths, the bike lane virtually
disappears forcing bicycles into the #2 traffic lane. It would be safer if the red "no parking"
area could be extended for 1-3 car lengths uphill until the white stripe of the parking lane is
wide enough to support both parked cars and a bicycle.
2.I ride my bicycle up and down Farm Hill to Canada College 2 to 3 times per week. I see lots
of nails, screws, broken glass and rocks that stays in the same place for months. I've started
walking up and down Farm Hill once a month specifically to pick up nails and broken glass in
the bike lane. It doesn't seem like Farm Hill Road is being swept between Cambridge Rd and
Eden Bower Lane. It should be swept on day 1B according
to http://www.redwoodcity.org/home/showdocument?id=5936. I have called the city 3 or 4
times about this over the past 6-7 months but the situation seems unchanged. Could you
please make sure that the bike lanes are swept of nails, screws, glass and rocks on the bi-
weekly schedule? Thank you.
Donald Landwirth
8.A. - Page 92
