<br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <br /> <br />STUDY MEETING - CHILDREN'S ISSUES <br /> <br />Corinne Centeno, Fair Oaks Community Center Coordinator, introduced Kristen <br />Andersen, Redwood City Child Care consultant, who presented her report <br />"Redwood City Child Care Policy and Recommendations." <br /> <br />Karen Petersen, 157 Central Avenue, Redwood City addressed the Council and <br />Board regarding the needs of the learning disabled; and, the sale of <br />Washington Elementary School. <br /> <br />Discussion by Council Members, Board Members and staff followed, focusing on <br />financial realities; state formula for funding local schools including the <br />Serrano v. Priest decision; lack of equity in San Mateo County by revenue per <br />pupil; possibility of the City using some of its Redevelopment Agency funds to <br />assist Redwood City school districts; involvement of the County; bond issues <br />and tax overrides; after school programs and day care facilities; sale of old <br />school sites to provide funds for more usable schools and classroom needs <br />forecasting; and providing the educational opportunities to our children that <br />will encourage them to stay in school and stay out of the criminal justice <br />system. <br /> <br />Catherine Coughlan, 1831 Anamor Street, Redwood City, asked Council to upgrade <br />the Coordinator's position to a full time position. <br /> <br />CONSENSUS: It was determined by the Mayor that it was the consensus of the <br />Council Members and Board Members to have the two staffs meet and discuss <br />whether or not Redwood City Redevelopment Agency funds could be used to assist <br />the school district, and how and where those funds would be used. <br />MEMO 2/5/91 <br /> <br />CONSENSUS: It was determined by the Mayor that it was the consensus of the <br />Council Members and Board Members to ~ponsor a community forum sometime in the <br />fall called "Investing in our Children." <br /> <br />MEMO 2/5/91 <br /> <br />------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />Mayor La Berge thanked everyone <br />adjourned at 9:35 p.m. <br /> <br />for participating and declared the Meeting <br /> <br />A~~~ <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br />Study Meeting Minutes <br />February 4, 1991 <br /> <br />MINUTE BOOK NO. 50 <br />Page No. 168 <br /> <br />-- -.-.-. -ì- <br /> <br />
