REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

May 6, 2002

Subject
Final Acceptance - Fire Station #9 Kitchen Renovation Project
Engineering File No. 803-02

Recommendation
Accept the improvements including Change Order No. 1 for the Fire Station #9 Kitchen
Renovation Project, completed by Tinney Construction Corporation of Redwood City,
California, and authorize the release of bonds.

Background
On October 8, 2001, City Council awarded the contract in the amount of $29,955 to
Tinney Construction Corporation of Redwood City for the Fire Station #9 Kitchen
Renovation Project. The kitchen in Fire Station #9 was in need of renovation, after
being in use for 14 years.

The Fire Station #9 Renovation Project replaced the lower kitchen cabinets, provided
new more durable stainless steel countertops, replaced old plumbing fixtures, replaced
old garbage disposals, and replaced old dishwashers. One change order was issued
for $3,675.90, which included resizing the drain lines to comply with plumbing code
requirements; installing new GFCI receptacles and rewiring to meet electrical code
requirements, and installing a support bracket for the pre-rinse faucet. (It should be
noted that the change order exceeded Staff's 10% authorization, but due to the
requirement to meet code requirements, no other options were available). This change
order represents 12.25% of the original bid amount. The total final contract amount is
$33,630.90.

Fiscal Impacts
Funds in the amount of $35,000 are appropriated in the 2001-2002 Capital
Improvement Program Budget for this project, and no additional funding is required for
completion.

Brian Lee ~/~vl~n ge~e~aPa-Er'e~snO~ Ed Everett
Senior Civil Engineer neering & Construction City Manager

JP/JKL:ss
S/library/reports/brian/Accept_Fire Station #9 - Kitchen Renovation
