There are no real alternatives to this project. This was a planned CIP improvement for the
current fiscal year. The City could delay the conversion of this circuit. Staff believes
delaying this conversion would cause unreasonable risk and higher future repair costs.

The circuit conversion creates a safer, controllable street light circuit. At a future time
when the circuit unpredictably fails, the high voltage will present safety concerns. The
conversion and repair would have to be performed at the time of failure, and the City would
incur a longer term outage of the street light circuit and a more expensive emergency
repair.

Fiscal Impact
Funds have been approved in the amount of $45,000 in the 2001-2002 Capital
Improvement Program 5 kY Circuit Conversion budget request to replace three circuits.
This is the last of the three circuits.

Budgeted amount $45,000
Balance left for this project $20,710
This conversion project -$17,450
City purchased materials for this project -$ 3,260
Budget balance for remaining circuit in this CIP $0

Any additional materials necessary to complete the conversion will be purchased using
operations and maintenance funds available in the current traffic operations budget.
Sufficient funds are available.

Gdrd-on Mann - Peter Ingram Ecl-Everett
Public Works Superintendent Public Works Services Director City Manager

Attachments
None
