From the City Manager1 May 6, 2002 Subject Purchase One Passenger Van Recommendation By motion authorize the purchase of one passenger van from San Bruno Ford of San Bruno, CA in amount of $22,200.00 Background The Library's Project READ Program has received a State of California Library Grant, English Language and Literacy Intensive (ELLI). This grant is a two-year grant totaling $150,000. The grant budget approved the purchase of a nine to twelve seat van to transport Project READ children and their parents to their tutoring sites, special events, educational workshops and computer lab classes offered by the Project READ Program. Public Works Services Department, in conjunction with the Library (Project Read) developed vehicle specifications for one passenger van. The City Clerk advertised the bid invitation with copies of the bid being mailed to eleven vendors. The three bids received were opened by the City Clerk on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 and are summarized as follows: San Bruno Ford San Bruno, CA $22,200.00 S & C Ford San Francisco, CA $23,019.36 South City Ford So. San Francisco, CA $23,598.50 Alternative This vehicle is an additional vehicle to the City's fleet. The alternative of not purchasing this vehicle would impact Project Read since this vehicle is necessary for implementing their additional service plan. Fiscal Impact If approved the Library will budget for the annual maintenance cost in the amount of $3,158, but not for the future replacement cost of the van.
