EPO~T To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

May 6, 2002

Subject
Amendment No.1 to the Agreement for Construction and Joint Use of Recreational
Facilities at Hoover School

Recommendation
Authorize the City Manager, by motion, to execute the subject amendment.

Background
In 2000, voters passed Proposition 12, a Park and Recreation Bond Act that provided
funding for projects within local communities. The City of Redwood City is to receive
$935,108 in Per Capita and Roberti, Z'Berg-Harris Grant funds all of which are to be
dedicated to the Hoover School Play field renovation project. As you are aware, the project
will install a synthetic turf that will improve the field quality and enhance its use. A
requirement of the State for the use of these funds is that the City maintains at least 20
years of "land tenure" on the school property.

Because only 10 years remain on the current 30-year agreement (signed in January of
1982) between the City and the School District, we have asked the School District for an
amendment to the agreement for an additional 30 years. The Board of Trustees of the
Redwood City School District is scheduled to formally approve the amendment at their
April 24, 2002 meeting

Alternative
Direct staff to reallocate Proposition 12 Bond Act funds to another project and fund the
Hoover Field Renovation with General Fund dollars.

Fiscal Impact
Approval will allow $935,108 in Bond Act Grant money to be applied to the Hoover School
Field Renovation project.

~'~_.ary ~)ver (..// Corinne Centeno E~d Everett
PRCS Superintendent PRCS Director City Manager

Attachment
Amendment No. 1 to Agreement for Construction and Joint Use of Recreational Facilities
at Hoover School
