SECTION 2509.3 OF THE BUILDING CODE AMENDED: Section 2509.3 of <br />the Building Code is amended to read as follows: <br /> <br /> 2509.3 Limitations. Water resistant gypsum backing board shall not be used in the <br />following locations: <br /> <br />1. Over a vapor retarder in shower or bathtub compartments. <br />2. Where there will be direct exposure to water or in areas subject to continuous <br />high humidity. <br />3. In shower compartments and other wet locations. <br /> <br />Sec. 9.75. SECTION 2603.4.1.5 OF THE BUILDING CODE AMENDED: Section <br />2603.4.1.5 of the Building Code is amended to delete the reference to Class C roof- <br />covering assembly and to read as follows: <br /> <br />2603.4.1.5 Roof ing. Foam plastic insulation under a roof assembly or roof covering <br />that is installed in accordance with the code and the manufacturer’s instructions <br />shall be separated from the interior of the building by wood structural panel <br />sheathing not less than 0.47 inch (11.9 mm) in thickness bonded with exterior glue, <br />with edges supported by blocking, tongue-and-groove joints or other approved type <br />of edge support, or an equivalent material. A thermal barrier is not required for <br />foam plastic insulation that is a part of a Class A or B roof-covering assembly, <br />provided the assembly with the foam plastic insulation satisfactorily passes FM <br />4450 or UL 1256. <br /> <br />SECTION 4. A new Article VI of Chapter 9 of the Redwood City Code is hereby <br />added to read as f ollows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE VI AMENDMENTS TO 2016 CALIFORNIA PLUMBING CODE <br /> <br />Sec. 9.76. SECTION 408.6 OF THE PLUMBING CODE AMENDED: Section 408.6 of <br />the Plumbing Code is amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />408.6 Shower Compartments. Shower compartments, regardless of shape, shall <br />have a minimum finished interior of 1024 square inches (0.6606 m2) and shall also be <br />capable of encompassing a 30 inch (762 mm) circle. The minimum required area and <br />dimensions shall be measured at a height equal to the top of the threshold and at a point <br />tangent to its centerline. The area and dimensions shall be maintained to a point of not <br />less than 70 inches (1778 mm) above the shower drain outlet with no protrusions other <br />than the fixture valve or valves, showerheads, soap dishes, shelves, and safety grab <br />bars, or rails. Fold-down seats in accessible shower stalls shall be permitted to protrude <br />into the 30 inch (762 mm) circle. The center of the 30 inch circle shall be no more than 30 <br />inches from the shower controls. The 30 inch circle shall be measure from the finished <br />6.4.B. - Page 25
