Data from the fully Countywide survey, while not provided for individual jurisdictions, illustrate general statistics on the population of homeless
persons. The 2,281 homeless persons translated into 1, 835 households of which 90% were households consisting only of adults, and 10% were
adults and children. There were nine households that included only unaccompanied homeless youth under age 18. The attached JPEG
summarizes the locations where the households were living at the time of the census.
The results of the 2013 unsheltered homeless survey indicated that the typical unsheltered homeless person in San Mateo County is a single
man with at least one disability. Of those surveyed, 94% were single adults or adults living with other adults, 71% were men, and 80% had at
least one disability. The most commonly cited disabilities were alcohol or drug problems (72%), physical disability (52%), chronic health
problems (47%), and mental illness (37%). This data was consistent with the results from the 2011 survey, though all categories of disability
showed small increases.
Consolidated Plan
OMB Control No: 2506-0117 (exp. 07/31/2015)
REDWOOD CITY
56
