6.3.A. - Page 80 <br />HUD provides a standard method to estimate the community -wide risk of lead poisoning resulting from <br />lead-based paint. The method assumes that a certain percentage of homes built before the sale of lead- <br />based paint was banned in 1979 constitute a lead poisoning hazard. The older the age of the home, the <br />more likely it is to constitute a lead poisoning hazard. The method also assumes that low-income <br />households are more likely to be at risk of lead poisoning. Applying the percentage of low-income <br />households by tenure to the age of homes by tenure and multiplying by the presumed lead hazard <br />percentage results in the estimated number of households at risk of lead poisoning.
