Henderson <br />City Manager's communication to Council dated July 23, 1966. 8/8) <br />Don .Davis, representing Stone & Youngberg, City's financial <br />consultants, communication to City Manager dated July 29, 1966. _--. <br />(For full context of above communications, See City Clerk's <br />Files - GID 1-64 - Marine World) <br />Mayor Herkner asked Assistant City Attorney if his understanding of City Attorney's <br />communication was correctly interpreted as stating that the contracts to be con- <br />sidered on this project by Council this evening are legal contracts, and that the _.. <br />City may enter into the contracts, and if he also agreed these are legal contracts. <br />Assistant City Attorney responded in the affirmative. <br />Mayor Herkner, for benefit of those present, remarked on the significance of this <br />proposed project and that it had been under intensive negotiations between all <br />parties concerned for almost five years. He further commented on the importance of <br />the proposed Marine World Project to the City of Redwood City and its obvious bene- <br />fits, such as economic stability and national identity for our community of this <br />highly desirable recreational facility which would lend impetus to the progressive <br />development of the entire Greater City Area. <br />Mayor Herkner acknowledged some of those present who would make statements later, <br />as Assemblyman Carl Britschgi, T. Louis Chess, Chairman of the San Mateo County <br />Board of Supervisors, and introduced and welcomed prominent visitors, Mr. and Mrs. <br />Charles Black, Mrs. Balck in particular being noted as Miss Shirley Temple. <br />Assemblyman Britschgi urged Council's favorable action to <br />establish this very worthwhile project for benefit of whole <br />area. He pointed out the actions which had been taken by <br />the State Legislature to insure the safety of public money <br />in this development, and his gratification of Council's <br />capable stand in providing full protection for their community, <br />and of their endeavors to help bring a project of this quality <br />and magnitude to this area. <br />T. Louis Chess, Chairman of San Mateo County Board of Super- <br />visors, expressed County Supervisors' gratification in the <br />achievement of Council and Staff for successful conclusion of <br />this project which will mean so much to the City of Redwood City <br />and County of San Mateo, and assured all parties concerned of <br />their wholehearted cooperation to achieve success in this project. <br />City Manager introduced the following representatives from the American Broad- <br />casting Company: <br />Mr. Alfred R. Schneider, Vice President of American Broadcasting Company, <br />and personal representative of Mr. Simon B. Seigel, Executive Vice - <br />President of their Company, complimented Council on having one <br />of the most competent and brilliant City Managers he had ever en- <br />countered in his fifteen years of experience as chief negotiator <br />of their Company. <br />Mr. Schneider outlined briefly the complexities of deal that made <br />negotiations most important for all concerned and to insure success <br />of the project. _ <br />Mr. Schneider introduced the following who would be a part of the <br />project and had helped to bring project to this point: <br />Mr. David Sacks, Vice President KGC <br />Mr. Brad Baruh, General Manager of Marine World <br />Mario Guidano, Architect for Marine World <br />Philip S. Enrlich, Sr., Attorney <br />City Manager presented Mr. Sheldon Allen, President of Leslie Salt Company. <br />
