League of Women Voters of South San Mateo County expressing their <br />concern on "home rule" and urging regional consideration of regional <br />problems as proposed by ABAG. <br />Copy of letter addressed to Director of Public Works with copy <br />addressed to Council from Robert E. Daetz, 3591 Altamont Way, compli- <br />menting Staff on excellent manner in which Altamont -Midfield Improve- <br />ments were made. <br />Recommendation from Board of Directors of Chamber of Commerce that <br />Council adopt the Downtown Plan for Redwood City without further <br />delay. <br />City Clerk advised Planning Commission recommendation relating to the Downtown <br />Plan had been received, and set for public hearing as required by Ordinance. <br />Mayor Herkner asked communication be answered giving action to be taken on this <br />matter. <br />Councilman Petersen moved to adjourn to Executive Session for discussion of a <br />personnel matter, seconded by Councilman Rosselli. <br />City Attorney was asked to clarify legal points of executive session covering personnel <br />matters. Motion carried on roll call vote, Councilman Granger voting no. Regular <br />meeting adjourned at 10:55 p.m. <br />HELEN C. MOORE, City Clerk <br />Minutes of Regular Weekly Study Meeting <br />Redwood City Council <br />November 14, 1966 7:30 P. M. <br />Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Herkner. <br />Downtown Christmas Decorations. City Manager reported Staff had met with representa- <br />tives of Downtown Merchants Association regarding their request for a City con- <br />tribution towards augmenting of the downtown Christmas decoration program, copy of <br />communication received containing their budget problem for this yearly program <br />having been submitted to Council. City Manager reported at present City employee <br />time for installation and removal of decorations is the only contribution made <br />by City for this program. City Manager also advised Downtown Merchants Associa- <br />tion were again pre -paying parking meter charges along Broadway, from Main to <br />El Camino, at maximum revenue to make available free customer parking. The meter <br />posts will again be decorated with Christmas trees by Association, City also con- <br />tributing employee time in removing and replacing meter heads. <br />Mr. Al Himes, Chairman of Redwood City Merchants Association, <br />further detailed lack of funds in their Christmas decorations <br />budget and hoped that City could contribute funds in the amount <br />of $3,328.07 in order decorations could be augmented to be more <br />competitive with neighboring shopping areas and bring more tax <br />dollars to Redwood City. <br />Councilman Rosselli questioned whether 2600 block of Broadway planned to participate <br />in downtown program or making separate plans. Mr. Himes stated these merchants are <br />joining the whole downtown program. Councilman Bury questioned further budget <br />details of the Association which were explained by Mr. Himes. Councilman Henderson <br />asked whether City had ever participated in the past in this type of expenditure <br />and expressed her concern for continuing depletion of City funds previously budgeted, <br />and wondered if this should not be considered in next year's budget. <br />
