 234
Further discussion was held concerning disputed points raised in San Jose Mer-
cury article regarding Council policy. Councilman Keckley moved that this matter
be placed on Council's Agenda next week for further discussion and that copies of
article be sent to all Council members, seconded by Councilman Rosselli and carried.
(MINUTE ORDER #67-195)
Discussion of an adjourned Council meeting to discuss Transportation Committee recommen-
dations.
Mayor Herkner reported this had been requested by Councilman Petersen, Chairman,
of this Committee. Councilman Petersen reviewed detailed report and recommenda-
tion that had been mmde by Transportation Committee to Council on July 17, 1967,
and of the acceptance by the Council by Minute Order #67-154, whereby a City
"MINI" bus system had been approved, including bus routes proposed, preparation
of plans and specifications, preparation for bidding procedures, funding program to
be presented, etc., to enable City to constract with an operating firm to run such
a bus system in the City,
He advised a meeting of PUC was to be held on Monday, September 25th, 10:00 a.m.,
Community Activities Building, for hearing on request by Peninsula. Transit Lines
to discontinue bus line service in the City. He stated importance of City pre-
senting at that time a firm stand on what City intends to do with transportation
problem in our City and what time schedule has been set for its fulfillment, in
order to resist discontinuance of all service by Peninsula Transit before City is
ready with a transit system.
He advised Committee had diligently continued its work on this matter and that
another meeting of Committee was set for Tuesday, September 19, to work out final
details for presenting plans and specifications for Council's approval, or decision
of Council on other recommendations, which should be acted on before City's appear-
ance at the PUC meeting set for September 25th. He therefore asked that Council
consider adjourning present meeting to Wednesday, September 20th, to either approve
or disapprove further recommendations of the Transportation Committee.
Further discussion was held on proposed bus system, necessity of immediate action
because of presentation which would have to be made by the City at the PUC meet-
ing evidencing the intention of the City to proceed with establishing a bus system.
Councilman Bury asked that Council's next week's Agenda (9/25/67) contain an item
for Council's discussion of an up -coming Statewide Conference for undergrounding
of utilities. (Memo 9/19/67)
Councilman Rosselli moved to adjourn Council meeting to September 20, 1967, 8:00
a.m., City Manager's Office, for the purpose of receiving report and recommendation
by the Transportation Committee, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried. Meet-
ing adjourned at 9:30 P. M.
SRI$V
HELEN C. MOORE
City Clerk
