now being made by SRI for the research school and described other educational and <br />recreational projects hoped for as part of the total project, first portion of <br />which expected to open in May of 1968. <br />Mr. Alfred Schneider, Vice -President of ABC was introduced by Mr. Baruh. <br />Assistant City Manager announced presentation concluded and question and answer <br />period by Council would be followed by participation from audience, with Staff <br />and representatives of Redwood Shores and Marine World also remaining after <br />conclusion of the Council meeting to answer questions from individuals after <br />review of slides and charts available . <br />Councilman Bury questioned Project Economist concerning relation of personal <br />property tax to the Redwood Shores project, and was advised personal property tax <br />taken care of by normal tax rate on the County tax rolls. Councilman Bury questioned <br />Redwood Shores project Manager concerning future opportunities for reconsidera- <br />tion of planning of the project. Project Manager stated General Plan had been <br />approved and in the general meaning was just that, as planning designs presented <br />in this program had been a refinement of those plans, and many more opportunities <br />would be presented for possible changes before finalized. <br />Councilman Henderson questioned Mr. Baruh on time schedules as to future planning <br />of the Marine World project which had included oceanography institute, hotels, <br />and restaurants, mentioned. Mr. Baruh stated initial phase of project scheduled <br />for opening in 1968, but difficult to state when additional projects would be <br />scheduled, but institute being researched now. He advised some 60 acres involved <br />in opening stage planning. Councilman Henderson also questioned tax exemptions <br />within the District and if schools were exceptions. City Attorney advised since <br />City had adopted the State Revenue and Taxation Code, which included all exemp- <br />tions same as would apply at County level, the same properties would be exempted, <br />and this would include schools. <br />Councilman Henderson questioned Mr. Johnson regarding land use in the revised <br />plan and if it conformed to density as in the Feadbility Report in number of <br />units per acre. Mr. Johnson stated only difference at present was greater number <br />of residential acres allocated, not a density change. Councilman Henderson ques- <br />tioned whether recommendations should be considered to increase industrial and <br />recreational areas as being more beneficial to City. Mr. Johnson stated changes <br />to residential areas had been made after recommendations and consultations with <br />ABAG representatives indicated a surplus of industrial land was evidence in the <br />Bay Area. <br />Councilman Petersen asked when first sale of homes expected and how many could <br />be anticipated within the next year. Mr. Johnson stated first tentative plans <br />on sale of 150 single family homes, and 40 town houses expected in 1968, and hopes <br />to achieve 450 annual minimum sales thereafter.
