RESOLUTION NO. 16-22 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY TO INITIATE PROCEEDINGS TO AMEND THE <br />STRATEGIC GENERAL PLAN OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY TO <br />DESIGNATE A PORTION OF SANDPIPER PARK AS PUBLIC <br />FACILTIES (PF) <br />WHEREAS, the Belmont -Redwood Shores School District requested the City <br />amend the Joint Use Agreement for the construction and operation of a new two-story <br />school building on City -owned property at Sandpiper Park located at 797 Redwood <br />Shores Parkway; and <br />WHEREAS, Sandpiper Park includes the Sandpiper Community building, athletic <br />fields, a playground, associated landscaping and parking lot and a City pump station; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City's Real Property Acquisition and Disposal Policy requires the <br />Planning Commission to make a determination of General Plan consistency prior to the <br />disposition of City property; and <br />WHEREAS, the current General Plan land use classification for the Sandpiper <br />Park property is Parks (P), which applies to open space areas set aside for active and <br />passive recreation, including public and private parks of all sizes, sports fields, <br />recreational facilities, plazas and trails; and <br />WHEREAS, the shared use of the new school building and the existing City <br />pump station would not be consistent with the existing Parks land use classification, <br />Staff recommends the Planning Commission initiate a General Plan Map Amendment to <br />designate the new school building site and City pump station area as Public Facilities <br />(PF), as illustrated in Exhibit A attached to this resolution (the "General Plan <br />Amendment"). The pump station and school use are consistent with the uses described <br />in the PF land use designation; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 18.61 of the Redwood City Municipal Code provides for the <br />adoption by the Planning Commission of a Resolution of intention to amend the General <br />Plan. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF <br />THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. The recitals set forth above are true and correct and are hereby incorporated <br />by this reference as if fully set forth in their entirety. <br />2. The Planning commission hereby initiates proceedings to effect the General <br />Plan Amendment.
