Section 4.0 — Environnzentcd Setting and Discussion of Impacts
4.4.3.2 Impacts to Trees (Checklist Question S)
The proposed project would remove 45 trees and plant 45 trees on the project site. The trees that
would be removed and the trees to be planted are shown on the Conceptual Landscape Plan, Figure
3.2-2. In addition to the trees to be removed, there are also several trees located immediately
adjacent to the proposed additions and improvements that could be harmed during construction.
Impact BIO -2 Trees located immediately adjacent to the proposed additions and
improvements could be harmed during project construction. (Significant
Impact)
Mitisation Measures: The proposed project will implement the following tree protection measures
to avoid harming the trees to remain on-site upon completion of the project:
MM BIO -2
• As required under the City's Tree Preservation Ordinance, a tree removal
permit will be obtained from the Director of Parks and Recreation prior to
cutting or removing trees on the project site.
• Prior to commencement of construction, construction fencing shall be
placed around the drip line of all trees proposed for preservation.
• No grading or other construction shall occur within the drip line of any
tree proposed for preservation except in conformance with a Tree
Protection Plan approved by the City Arborist.
• No vehicle, equipment or materials shall be parked or stored within the
drip line of any tree proposed for preservation.
The proposed project, including the tree replacement plan of 45 trees, and with implementation of the
mitigation measures identified above, would not result in a significant impact to trees. (Less Than
Significant Impact with Mitigation Incorporated)
4.4.3.3 Other Biological Resource Impacts (Checklist Questions 2, 3, and 6)
The project site does not include riparian habitat, wetlands, migratory corridors, or any other
sensitive habitat. Redwood Shores Lagoon is located along the western site boundary, adjacent to the
existing Sandpiper Park turf sports field and approximately 550 feet west of the proposed two-story
classroom building. No construction activities, except for the installation of the proposed outdoor
seating area, would occur within 550 feet of Redwood Shores Lagoon. The proposed outdoor seating
area would be located approximately 450 feet west of the lagoon. Due to the separation distance
between the proposed project and the lagoon and the existing uses adjacent to the lagoon,
construction and operation of the proposed project would not impact the lagoon. There are no other
wetlands, waterways or other sensitive habitat located adjacent to the project site. The site is not
within the boundaries of an adopted or pending conservation plan.
