Section 4.0 — Environmental Setting and Discussion of Impacts
4,6 GEOLOGY AND SOILS
The following discussion is based upon the Geotechnical Engineering Investigation and Geologic
and Seismic Hazards Assessment completed for the project site by BAGG Engineers in July 2012,
The report is included as Appendix A to this Initial Study.
4.6.1 Existing Setting
4.6.1.1 Applicable Plans, Policies, and Regulations
Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zoning Act
The Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zoning Act regulates development in California near known
active faults due to hazards associated with surface fault ruptures. The Alquist-Priolo Earthquake
Fault Zones indicate areas with potential surface fault -rupture hazards. Development within Alquist-
Priolo Earthquake Fault Zones require special studies to ensure that no structures intended for human
occupancy are constructed across an active fault. The project site isnot located in an Alquist-Priolo
Earthquake Fault Zone.
California Building Standards Code
The California Building Standards Code is the California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 24. The
California Building Standards Code is a compilation of three types of building standards from three
different origins:
• Building standards that have been adopted by state agencies without change from building
standards contained in national model codes;
• Building standards that have been adopted and adapted from the national model code standards to
meet California conditions; and
• Building standards, authorized by the California legislature, that constitute extensive additions
not covered by the model codes that have been adopted to address particular California concerns.
The project shall be required to conform to the latest adopted California Building Standards Code, as
amended by the City of Redwood City, in effect at the time of project approval.
City of Redwood City Municipal Code
Section 9.152 of the City of Redwood City Municipal Code includes the 2013 California Building
Standards Codes.
City of Redwood City 38 initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration
Sandpiper Elementary School Facilities Expansion November 2016
