Section 4.0 — Environmental Setting and Discussion of Impacts
Building Materials
The project site was developed in the 1990's, after the use of hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos,
lead, and PCBs) in building materials ceased. Therefore, it is unlikely that hazardous materials are
present in building materials on the site and would be released during demolition and construction
activities. (Less Than Significant Impact)
Government Code 659625
The project site is not included on any list compiled pursuant to Section 65962.5 of the Government
Code (Cortese List). Therefore, the proposed project would not create a significant hazard to the
public or environment due to being Iocated on a site with known hazardous material contamination.
(No Impact)
4.8.3.2 Off Site Hazardous Materials Impacts (Checklist Question 3)
School Siting Criteria
Pursuant to Section 17268 of the California Education Code, environmental hazards associated with
nearby railroad tracks, above -ground storage tanks, hazardous facilities, hazardous pipelines, high
power transmission lines, and traffic corridors were assessed in the Phase I Environmental Site
Assessment and Hazardous Pipeline Memo completed by Cornerstone Earth Group. None of these
envirotunental hazards were found to be located within the distances specified by state codes and, as
a result, are not considered to pose an environmental concern to the proposed school facilities. (No
Impact)
4.8.3.3 Other Hazardous Materials Concerns (Checklist Questions 5 — 8)
The project site is not located within a public airport safety zone or near a private airport and would
not expose people or structure to wildland fires. The proposed project would not alter the existing
emergency access to the project site and/or the existing roadway system surrounding the site,
Therefore the project would not interfere with an emergency response plan or evacuation plan. (Less
Than Significant Impact)
4.8.4 Conclusion
The proposed project will not store or generate hazardous materials, and there are no known hazards
or hazardous material contamination that affect the site. As such, the proposed project would not
result in significant hazards or hazardous materials impacts.
