In addition to generating dust, litter, oil, and pollutants <br />that could contaminate runoff from the site, construction activities would increase the potential for <br />erosion and sedimentation by disturbing and exposing underlying soil to the erosive forces of water <br />and wind. The project site is approximately 0.77 acres and, therefore, would not require coverage <br />under the NPDES General Permit for Construction Activities. As required under the MRP, however, <br />the proposed project would implement the following construction best management practices (BMPs) <br />to reduce impacts to surface water quality from construction activities: <br />• Control and prevent the discharge of all potential pollutants, including pavement cutting <br />wastes, paints, concrete, petroleum products, chemicals, wash water or sediments, rinse water <br />from architectural copper, and non-stormwater discharges to storm drains and watercourses. <br />• Store, handle, and dispose of construction materials/wastes properly to prevent contact with <br />stormwater. <br />• Do not clean, fuel, or maintain vehicles on-site, except in a designated area where wash water <br />is contained and treated. <br />City of Redwood City 60 Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration <br />Sandpiper Elementary School Facilities Expansion November 2016 <br />
