C�� 18-1 P �� �� To'th+� Honor�b�+e l�la�ar an�d C��y �ounc�l ' �r�m t�� ' �ana er September 13, 2004 Subject Final Acceptance — Redwood City Police Department Air Handler Cooling Coil Replacement Project Recommendation Accept the improvements for the Redwood City Police Department Air Handler Cooling Coil Replacement Project, and authorize the release of retention and bonds to Westem Allied Mechanical, Inc. of Menlo Park, California. Background On May 10, 2004, the City Council awarded the Contract to Western Allied Mechanical, Inc. for the Redwood City Police Department Air Handler Cooling Coil Replacement Project, for the amount of $45,791. The Police Facility was built in 1991. With the proximity of the salt water air from the adjacent Bay and Wetlands, the salt has been attaching to the aluminum fins and coils of the air handler, corroding .the system and creating a condition needi��g higher maintenance to protect the system from worse corrosion, and system failure. This project replaced the aluminum finned cooling coils with copper finned and tubed cooling coils, to extend the life of the air handler, and reduce maintenance costs. There was one deductive change order for an amount of ($7,291.00), due to the contractor giving the City a credit for not having to do the work during overtime/weekend premium cost hours, which reduced the project cost to $38,500. Alternative Do not accept the improvements for the Redwood City Police Department Air Handler Cooling Coil Replacement Project, which would be contrary to prior Council action.
