Page 3 <br /> Commissioner Turk reported that she organized some parents from her child's preschool to participate <br /> in the Chase the Chill project. Her daughter's preschool class also visited Devonshire Oaks in October <br /> and sang Halloween songs for the seniors, bringing seniors and young children together. <br /> Commissioner Jones reported that Fair Oaks has 2 events in November, a Thanksgiving party on the 17" <br /> and a Fall Festival on the 23rd. She also reported that a Fair Oaks member,Joan Cooper, recently joined <br /> the County Commission on Aging. The Master Gardeners recently visited the garden at Fair Oaks. <br /> Commissioner Jones also volunteered at the polls for the election and is now a peer counselor having <br /> completed the training. She recommends the program to anyone interested. <br /> Chair Draeger reminded everyone of the Holiday Party on December 2nd for the Council's recognition of <br /> boards, committees and commissions. <br /> Bruce announced that the Thanksgiving lunch at the VMSC is on November 17th. The Peninsula Hills <br /> Women's Club is serving Thanksgiving lunch at the VMSC on November 24th. Aging and Adult Services <br /> will partner with the Senior Affairs Commission and the VMSC for the Worldwide Elder Abuse <br /> Awareness day in June. He and Laura Swartze) of Fair Oaks Senior Center attended a meeting with San <br /> Carlos Senior Center, Little House and Belmont Senior Center about a new program called LIFT, funded <br /> by the Sequoia Healthcare District. It provides rides for$4 per person from senior's homes to the local <br /> senior center and back home. Requests for rides can only be made from land line telephones, no cell <br /> phones, by calling the LIFT number. The senior centers that participate in the program will pay$100 per <br /> month for the service. The VMSC currently provides free rides to local seniors 3 days a week and may <br /> not have funds for the program. <br /> Adjournment <br /> The regular meeting of the Seniors Affairs Commission was adjourned at 2:35 p.m. The next meeting <br /> will be the retreat on Thursday,January 19, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center Theater in Redwood City, California. <br />
