The District has <br />committed to replace removed trees to provide additional landscape screening. <br /> <br />• Policy BE-2.1: Create complete neighborhoods by integrating schools, parks, <br />child care centers, community centers, infrastructure, green spaces, and other public <br />amenities into each neighborhood. <br /> <br />The General Plan amendment to Public Facility provides expanded school opportunities <br />for neighborhood children. In addition to new landscaping, the District has also committed <br />to construct a new restroom building for the benefit of the City Park. <br /> <br />• Policy BE-2.8: Make efforts to maintain and increase walking access to a variety <br />of neighborhood destinations by encouraging uses that provide access to services, goods <br />and community facilities within and near neighborhoods. <br /> <br />The General Plan amendment to Public Facility provides an opportunity for middle school <br />aged children to walk or bike to a neighborhood school. Redwood Shores Parkway is <br />designated as a Class II bike path and the surrounding neighborhood is fairly level with a <br />complete sidewalk network. The current middle school located approximately six miles <br />away at the top of Ralston Avenue is mainly accessed by vehicles. <br /> <br />• Goal BE-31: encourage developments and implementation of strategies that <br />minimize vehicle trips and vehicle miles traveled. <br /> <br />The General Plan amendment to Public Facility provides an opportunity for middle school <br />aged children to walk or bike to a neighborhood school. The surrounding neighborhood <br />is fairly level with a complete sidewalk network and bike paths. The location of a school <br />at this campus will significantly reduce vehicle trips and vehicle miles traveled as the <br />current middle school located approximately six miles away at the top of Ralston Avenue. <br /> <br />• Goal BC-3: ensure that public places evolve to meet the needs of changing city <br />demographics and public interests and are accessible to all members of the community. <br /> <br />The General Plan amendment to Public Facility provides an opportunity for the District to <br />address the increase in school enrollment and provided an opportunity for middle school <br />children to attend a school in their neighborhood. <br /> <br />• Policy BC-3.1: incorporate flexible design characteristics into the renovation of <br />existing and development of new parks and community facilities. Consider incorporating <br />education with recreation opportunities. <br /> <br />The General Plan amendment would provide an opportunity to expand on the current <br />shared use of facilities between the District and the City. The District will have use of the <br />new classroom building during school hours and the City will have access to the new <br />classrooms during non-school hours.
