<br />38 <br /> <br /> <br />In accordance with the California Fair Employment and Housing Act and City policy, employees are entitled <br />to pregnancy disability leave. <br /> <br />20.7 Court Appearance Leave <br /> <br />20.7.1 Leaves for court appearance shall be granted by the City for the following: Court appearance on <br />the behalf of the City--no loss of salary will be incurred. <br /> <br />20.7.2 When a worker is required to appear as a witness in court, other than as a litigant, or to respond to <br />an official order from another government jurisdiction for reasons not brought about through the <br />connivance or misconduct of the worker, a leave without loss of salary shall be granted up to the <br />amount of the difference between the worker's regular earnings and any amount he/she receives <br />for witness fees. <br /> <br />20.8 Jury Duty <br /> <br />Any worker whose name shall be selected from the list of trial jurors to serve as a juror in a civil or criminal <br />action pending in a Superior, Municipal, or Justice Court of the State of California, or any Federal Court <br />convening in the State of California, or any worker required to report for the selection of a jury in any of <br />these courts shall receive pay for the time such service requires his absence from work; provided, however, <br />that the City may require proof of the time such service was required and any monies received from jury <br />service shall be deducted from the pay; provided, further, that the worker shall report to work whenever a <br />reasonable portion of the shift remains for completion. Any worker, except Communications Dispatchers, <br />required to serve as a juror for more than two weeks shall have the option of adjusting his/her regular <br />starting or quitting time as a result of being called for jury service. Communications Dispatchers working <br />swing or grave shifts, required to serve as a juror for more than one day, will have the option of adjusting <br />his/her starting or quitting time. <br /> <br />20.9 Personal Business Leave <br /> <br />20.9.1 A full-time worker shall be entitled to a maximum of two (2) days per year for Personal Business <br />Leave without loss of pay. Such leave shall be deducted from accrued sick leave, and may be <br />taken in increments of one (1) hour. Personal business leave shall be prorated for part-time <br />workers who work a minimum of twenty (20) hours per workweek. <br /> <br />20.9.2 Personal Business is defined as business of urgent and compelling importance which cannot be <br />taken care of outside of normal working hours and which is not covered under other leave <br />provisions of this Memorandum of Understanding. <br /> <br />20.9.3 A worker must secure advance permission for all Personal Business Leave as defined above, and <br />shall normally notify the Department Head two (2) days before taking this leave, unless an <br />emergency exists which prohibits the worker from providing such advance notice. <br /> <br />20.10 Leave of Absence <br /> <br />20.10.1 Upon written request of a worker, the Personnel Officer may grant a leave of absence without pay <br />for a period not to exceed one (1) year. Any authorization for a leave of absence without pay shall <br />be made in writing by the Personnel Officer and the Department Head. <br /> <br />6.3.B. - Page 48
