ATTY/RESO.0016/CC RESO AMENDING CLASSIFICATION & SALARY PLAN FOR SEIU <br />REV: 02-14-17 MI <br />Page 3 of 16 <br />JOB DESCRIPTION <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />RECREATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR/SPECIAL EVENTS <br /> <br />DEFINITION <br /> <br />To direct, oversee and coordinate the staff, operations and services of the City’s <br />Special Events program which offers a diverse range of community cultural and social <br />events; to work with representatives from the community and the City to identify, plan <br />and schedule events; to source talent and performers for special events; to organize <br />complex equipment and facilities; and to perform related work as assigned. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br />This single incumbent classification provides support to the City’s diverse range of <br />community cultural and social events serving multiple generational residents. This <br />classification is distinguished from the Program Coordinator in that the latter <br />classification has responsibility for providing recreation and community services to an <br />assigned program area or school site. <br /> <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED <br /> <br />Direction is provided by higher level supervisory and management staff. <br /> <br />Direct and indirect supervision is provided to program staff. <br /> <br />EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL AND IMPORTANT DUTIES <br /> <br />1. Direct, oversee and coordinate staff, operations and activities of the City’s Special <br />Events program which offers a diverse range of community and cultural events <br />within the City’s downtown area; events include, but are not limited to, multiple <br />genre musical events and concerts, festivals and holidays, movie nights. <br /> <br />2. Research and identify performers for multiple musical genres appealing to the City’s <br />residents, such as classical, rock, and related musical categories; source talent, <br />artists and musicians; present options to the third party commission responsible for <br />talent selection; organize and execute contracts and payments. <br /> <br />3. Source and organize lighting and acoustical equipment needed for musical events; <br />work with staff to prepare staging and related facilities; coordinate all logistics for <br />performances. <br /> <br />4. Work with committees and local community businesses to identify, plan and <br />implement offerings of interest to the community. <br /> <br />6.3.B. - Page 124
