City Council Presentation <br />March 13, 2017 <br />Bay Road Block <br />Rationale for the GP Amendment <br />•Community Interest: At the community meeting co -sponsored by MidPen and TSO on December 14, 2016, many <br />attendees described the need for affordable housing in Redwood City and voiced support for the option of a Bay <br />Road affordable housing development alternative to payment of impact fees <br />•Creating an Opportunity:Changing the zoning on Bay Road would begin a process, which could bring significant <br />number of affordable homes to Redwood City and maximize the benefit of the Broadway Plaza impact fees by <br />delivering actual units, with more units and a deeper affordability than could be otherwise achieved <br />•Collaborative Approach: Private, non-profit and public sectors working together to accelerate the provision of <br />affordable housing through - <br />•the donation of undeveloped land provided by TSO, <br />•the expertise of affordable housing development by MidPen, and <br />•the rezoning of the land by City Council <br />This is the first step to create the affordable housing opportunity
