<br />ATTY/ORD.439/ORD AMENDING MUNI CODE SECTION 2.27.6 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS – OPTION A <br />REV: 03-08-17 VR <br />Page 2 of 3 <br /> NOW, THEREFORE; THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> SECTION 1. The foregoing recitals are, and each of them is, true and correct <br />and constitute the findings in this matter. <br /> SECTION 2. The Redwood City Municipal Code is hereby amended as shown in <br />the following Sections by adding the text shown in underline (example) and deleting the <br />text shown in strikeout (example). The preceding Section and all text in brackets, <br />[example] are informational only and need not be published in the Municipal Code. <br /> SECTION 3. Section 2.27.6 “General Municipal Elections” of the Redwood City <br />Municipal Code is hereby amended as follows: <br />Sec. 2.27.6 – GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS: <br />A. Pursuant to the provisions of Government Code Section 36503.5Elections Code <br />Sections 1301 and 10403.5, made applicable by Section 4 of the Charter of the <br />City of Redwood City, this Council does hereby require and order that general <br />municipal elections of the City of Redwood City shall be held in said City on the <br />same day as school district elections statewide general elections as specified in <br />Section 2602 1200 of the Elections Code, to wit: the first Tuesday after the first <br />Monday in November of each oddeven-numbered year, commencing with said <br />election in November, 19952018, and continuing thereafter so long as this section <br />shall remain in effect. <br /> <br />B. This Council hereby finds and determines that, as a result of the adoption of the <br />ordinance from which this section is derived, no term of office of any elective officer <br />of this City shall be increased or decreased by more than twelve (12) months. <br /> <br />SECTION 4. In accordance with California Elections Code Sections 1301 and <br />10403.5, the term of office for City Councilmembers elected at the November 2013 and <br />2015 general municipal elections is increased by 12 months to a 5-year term. The term <br />of office for all City Councilmembers elected thereafter, beginning in 2018 and 2020 <br />respectively, is 4 years. <br />6.4.B. - Page 4
